Lavoy, I priced out the bearings for the spindle on my Boyar - Schultz 6 -12, I do not remember the class of them, but they are the ones that match that was used from new. They were $300each. I am going to clean and grease the ones in the spindle and than go from there, I picked up a 1/2Hp 3phase mo...

Just got an e-mail from Sears that the chip tray is obsolete, so kind of dead in the water for right now. Lavoy Lavoy, do you still have the old chip tray? If so, find a good body man to straighten it out. On the big American Pacemaker that a friend has in his shop the chip tray was supposed to rol...

Looking good, Lavoy.
I have to take apart my Boyer-Schultz 6-12 surface grinder and move it so while I got it apart I am going to pull down the spindle and clean and lube the bearings.

Lavoy, now you can really start spending money......... Buy an Aloris style toolpost for it, you can get a good one for a reasonable price at several places on the net. An AXA is up to 12" and a BXA goes from 12 up to 16" IIRC. The Aloris Catalog has a chart in it that lays out the sizes. A we...

Yep should be 1-1/2" But if the nut is badly rusted it could be smaller.
I made a set of nuts for a local guy who needed them to finish his 420 resto... He got a hell of a bargain on a lightly used crawler.
The bolt is 1" - 8TPI so the smallest the standard nut could be would be 1-1/2"

Lavoy, have you got the lathe home yet? I have really ramped up the equipment in my shop, that is one reason I have not done much on my 420 yet, that and the last two winters we have had here. Now you can really start spending money,,,,, The lathe itself is the cheap part. If you are looking...

I saw a pair of John Deeres here, yesterday doing some grading on a lot off of Bessemer Street where they had stockpiled materials for the North Street rebuild project.
Yours reminded me of them.
Nice Job.

Yep, it sucks to be ripped off. I made a deal on a 430, had a $500 deposit on it and had done the work that our agreement called for. Removed a beaver dam, arranged for a trapper to remove the beavers before removing the dam, and than lowering the level slowly over a period of three months until the...

Re: 420 run problem

hello men, I removed the alternator this morn, took it in to napa and they tested it, it is toast! they also said it is not a single wire internal regulator alt. :( I almost don't want to hear what I have burned up running it this way without a regulator  more learning the hard way! I am goin...

Hmmm...
Leather cup seals, I did not think they would be used on a 1010. IIRC the cylinders on my 420 use a set of o-rings to seal the pistons, OEM JD cylinders. I have to rebuild both of them.

crj. I Used a Lisle Cylinder Hone to take the gouges out of a friends cylinders on his IH dozer. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/lil-15000?seid=srese1&gclid=CLmJnLKDhrwCFSdp7AodJGYAWw Then I turned new pistons for them. It stopped the bypassing of the hydraulic fluid and the blade stays up now. It...

I don't know if my sugesstions would apply to the distributor on a 420C but I have a 8N tractor and would assume it is somewhat similar. Oftentimes intermittent starting problems will be the ignition switch or points (as previously mentioned). However the insulator on the distributor body for the s...

6 to 8GPM should be plenty.
You need to size the pumps maximum output to the top rpm of the engine.
Pumps are sized by cubic inches per revolution,
Cu.in per rev X RPM = Cu.in per minute.
Cu.in per minute / 231 = Gallons per minute.
Hope this helps.
