Hi, Hey, that is neat. The dealer's serviceman knows what the machine needs before he even gets there. Plus, the GPS would make it easy to find if someone were to 'borrow' it. I'm not against the electronics for the intended purpose - to save the machine from some of the operators out there. You kno...

Newer JD crawlers and 'electronics' and other 'gotchas'

Hi, How far along in the JD450 line can one go before the machines have electronics incorporated into them? I really don't see that I need any form of electronic control systems in a bulldozer. I can get by with fully mechanical systems, thank you. Even though I'm an electrical engineer by trade, an...

Hi, Yeah! That's what I said! Put 'er back on eBay! :P Well, he's going to fix it, so I guess the Buck Stops Here - or more accurately, *his* bucks get to *leave* here, as it were! :P :P :P On the bright side, so far this is all he's found to be wrong with it. I'm still waiting to see the crankshaft...

We don't need no stinking bearings!

Hi, Oh, this is a good one! My buddy pulled the oilpan last night, and noticed that somone had torched off some of the skid plate to allow said pan to drop out. So, someone was already in there ahead of him at some point...... So, he pulled the #2 rod cap and - you ready for this? Are you sure?? OK....

Another update

Hi, I saw my buddy again today, and he's pulled the head and the problem isn't there. The #2 piston has some unusual motion in the bore, so now it's either the rod bearing or the wristpin that's in trouble, I'm thinking. Of course. He was hoping to not have to pull the block, so naturally that's wha...

Update - I only dislike it now :P

Hi, Well, the thing is now in his yard. The new battery at least fires it up. It hammers pretty bad, so we did some simple troubleshooting before moving it anywhere. The stethoscope indicates it's up top. Oil pressure is good, so that's at least a good sign. No metal bits in the oil, either, also go...

Hi, Hmmm. Hadn't thought about that. Personally, I want to use stuff, not tear it down and sell it off. I'd love to have a 64 blade on my 420c instead of the 62, but know it won't work of course. A 440 with a 64 would fit the bill. I'd also love to have a scarifier on the back, and a 3-pt makes that...

Hi, Yep. It's in my neck of the woods, somewhat. Since we're all over the proverbial map, this is close enough to call it my neck of the woods. :) I've been to that place before, and just recently. There was no 440 there at the time, or I'd have made mention of it here in case someone had interest i...

Hi,

A few questions about it:

Does it have a manual blade or a PAT blade or a loader or is it a bare crawler? Does it have anything on the rear like a winch or 3-pt hitch? Finally, where is it located?

Later!

Hi, I recall such a fan, and *think* it was first offered on the 440's. It may have not been offered until the 1010, though. You know how wetware can be! :P Regardless, there are pusher fans available - well, I ought to say I've seen them, one needs a scorecard to tell what is and is not available t...

Hi,

Looks like they discovered one issue with longer tracks and greater grip - cracking the light MC sprocket spokes......

Hi,

I think the advice to carry the 62 blade low on a 4-roller was so that you'd not get flung off the seat as easily when the thing tipped over forward from all that weight hanging out so far in front of the front idler! :P

Later!

Hi,

Ah, cool. I've not been looking at non-PAT 450's, but knowing there's a PAT readily available for one means that I'm going to start eyeballing machines I've been passing up. :)

Have a happy 4th all!

Hi, Well, we could always just make a new copy of a 440. That'd fit the bill! I truly wish someone would. I want to buy a new 440 with the 64 PAT! The Bobcats that were made by Clark aren't too bad. Yet another friend has one of those, and I find it on par with a cralwer/loader to work on the few ti...

Hi, Uh. Ok. He traded one working dozer for two that don't...... Good for you, though, with that other 2010 taking up most of your shop space with pieces strewn about waiting on a motor. You can only work one project at a time, anyway, and that one *in* the shop must come first. I wonder what other ...
