Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

Thanks Bruce. I did not get a chance to look yet. My upper dust collector has the vane style lower housing to get the airflow spinning. I'd be surprised if it was a restriction. I will have a look though. I just returned from Spokane and purchasing a new front idler. My left one has about 14 inches ...

Re: Looking for 450 tool tray pictures or measurements

Absolutely it helps Bruce. You have been very helpful in getting these items made. There is always a bump or two in the process, but in the end with persistence the final product is hopefully as good as it can be. So thank you. So for all future tool tray requests, owners need to measure their batte...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

Very interesting Bruce. I assume you meant the precleaner dust bowl up top? Or the two filters in the big filter can between the legs? Regardless I will investigate tonight when my day is done. I am curious and want to correct it if it is not correct. I did not drag my Jeep. I pushed on tw...

Re: Looking for 450 tool tray pictures or measurements

Thanks Bruce. I looked in the parts manual. There are changes to dozens of components with serial number time stamps. I see the battery box got an addition of a battery switch which probably did not affect the width of the compartment itself. The switch was added at Ser # 220363. My machine is 226XX...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

Well it has been a haul. If I did not feel the need to polish every lock washer. It would have been done sooner. So later today, I have been trying to figure out how to load it up as the manual states. I will be using the clutch pedal on shifts because I want to break in the engine clutch. An...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

Well shucks... It runs :D I put some long days in and just fired it off about two hours ago. 60 PSI oil pressure at 1000 RPM. A couple restarts and it fired off before one complete revolution each time. I shut it down and will try to break in the engine tomorrow by following the manual with some typ...

Re: Looking for 450 tool tray pictures or measurements

Thanks Bruce, I just sent you an email. I can make you a custom board and straps no sweat... Great pictures on the changes needed. I need to see what machine you had that had a different battery box. I'll go back and look... Still waiting to hear back from everybody else. Hopefully no issues and eve...

Re: Looking for 450 tool tray pictures or measurements

Got your email Bruce. Very happy to hear the two machines fit well. As for the third machine with the different size battery box, I can make longer straps based on the excellent pictures you sent, But could you please check your email. I need some clarification on how to change the board lower block...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

Yes, so very true. So I am trying to find the specifications on the sending units for the Trans temp, and cooling temp senders. How many ohm's. The Stewart Warner units have mixed reviews and some state that they put in the original senders for reliable function. I will be ohm'ing the senders today ...

Re: Looking for 450 tool tray pictures or measurements

I should be back to making tool trays in about three days. I am trying to finish my engine rebuild. I think it is important to mention that I called Lavoy to ask if my making and selling these parts was OK on his board. In this circumstance he said it was OK. So Thank you Lavoy for this opportunity ...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

Wow, what a great pre-oiler! All it takes is a little ingenuity and presto.. I am pretty confident the assembly lube and the cranking will do the job. I have used the melling product before. Same with an engine builder that has done two engines for me. I am actually hoping to start the crawler in ab...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

That has sure been on my mind. It's not like I can pull a distributor and run a primer tool on a drill there. I assembled the entire engine using melling engine assembly lube. And oil on the cylinder walls. I put as much lube in the oil pump as I could before clamshelling the pump body together. I a...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

Well thanks for all the responses on where the oil pressure sending unit block adapter went. It's on and ready to go. I got a couple days back on the install. The fuel system is all done. The turbo was in fact the correct one. Turns out they ship it with the center housing and the intake housing clo...

Re: Needing head gasket wisdom

I was just wandering through the JD parts catalog site. It's a good resource. Especially when I don't want to walk all the way to the shop to check something in the manual. I also jumped the gun with my head bolt offer. The R53223 bolts I have also fit my old 69 JD400 backhoe. I should really keep t...
