Re: Looking for 450 tool tray pictures or measurements

I came home from an errand day and had a box waiting for me. I received Stans tool tray, the plywood support board and one metal strap that holds everything in place. Thank you Stan! So I measured the tool tray metal. The main body of the tray is 16 GA just like the vandalism cover. The end walls on...

Re: Vandalism guard and tool tray insert for the left box

It was a fun project. Thank you Bruce for sending me the part. I'd have to think twice and be assured my part was going to come back for me to do that with someone I did not know. So thank you for trusting me with it. And sorry about the flag or tang being a shade long. To fill everybody in, The fla...

Re: Looking for 450 tool tray pictures or measurements

I would also be interested in getting one. I just a 450B that has one but it is bent up and has rust holes in it. The board and straps are good. Thanks Ok, I will put you on the list. I am still waiting on the arrival of the OEM parts. Probably will be here tomorrow. I will keep the progress posted...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

The clutch is all adjusted and reassembles back to my settings. Well my block is hanging on a chain ready to go in. The yellow paint was still a tiny bit tacky today or it would be in. I also did some measuring on my cylinder head today and found it is out of spec on the exhaust valves. I thought it...

Re: Looking for 450 tool tray pictures or measurements

OK sounds good. I am still waiting for the box of parts. Then get a good look, make the patterns, make sure I have the right size metal etc. I will keep posting progress of course. Metal work is actually a hoot. Give it a try and a good place to learn neat stuff is You tube. There is some very amazi...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

I found out how to remove them with little effort. And better reading glasses. I fought them for a long time assuming the slot that goes around the bolt was just that. A slot. It is not and is more of a key hole shape to lock onto the bolt shoulder. I see that the clips pull the pressure plate metal...

Re: 1977 450C trackloader main clutch R/R

One thing I did was replace the main pressure line that goes from the pump outlet to the valve assembly for the blade control. I found some scrub marks that went through the braiding. It had a chance to rub in several spots and it was a lot easier to replace it standing where the engine should be ve...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

I did not do that to the bolts on purpose. :D That is where they stopped. I do know some high end car shows grade on bolt orientation. Not something I have ever aimed for. Ha. My friends wagoneer I just finished got zinc re-plated bolts under the hood. I had to research and build a plating station t...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

OK, I have a question. I am trying to set the engine clutch finger height. They are at different heights new out of the box and clamped down on the disc. So the fingers are supposed to be set at the height of the tool which is 2 inches and within .010 of each other. I understand that. I need to do s...

Re: Looking for 450 tool tray pictures or measurements

There's a 450b on Ebay that has a tool tray that is built a little different than Stans. May have been different styles built. Finally found it. Looks to have a compartment at each end with a shorter handle. https://www.ebay.com/itm/john-deere-450b-Crawler-Dozer/274047826824?hash=item3fce85fb88:g:t...

Re: Looking for 450 tool tray pictures or measurements

Hi BennyT, Yes I would say I could make more of them. But till I make one I just can't say a definite price. I need to take a few things into consideration. Costs of materials to make them, The sheet of metal, paint, etc. and the time involved. I figure out what that is and try to come up with a rea...

Re: 450C near death accident

I was wondering about putting in a request to make this thread a sticky. So it always stays at the top of the list. It is a very good reminder of the safety needed with these machines. Especially for a new owner or the lesser experienced. And, Uh, I resemble that remark. :) In the movie "Faith Like ...

Re: Looking for 450 tool tray pictures or measurements

Well I am learning a lot reading all this. Good stuff. Funny how things tend to become separated from the machines. My tool tray and vandal cover are nowhere to be seen. I am assuming that it had them. My 400 backhoe is missing the metal cover that goes over the stack valves and hoses for the hoe. A...
