Re: Needing head gasket wisdom

You didn't say if it is a dozer or a loader, so I am guessing it is a dozer. As oldmetalmender mentioned use the manual. You say you don't have a reference book, aka service or technical manual, now is the time to get one. As mentioned there is more to check than just a few bolt torques, when replac...

Re: Logging cable size, need drawbar pull for 455G

Straps are definitely wrong for your application. This John Deere site has some drawbar pull info. https://www.deere.com/en/dozers/non-current-models/ It appears the drawbar pull is only shown for dozers, not the loaders. The 450G TC dozer shows a bit over 24,000 lbs. maximum. That will be affected ...

Re: MC switching to 12V

Obie, I may be out of place with this but I'm going to post it anyway. Lavoy's store provides this site for us to use and he has most any, if not all, the parts you will need to maintain your crawler. I think it is kind of rude to post you are going to purchase your parts elsewhere, after asking for...

Re: MC switching to 12V

No war on my part regarding the positive ground alternators Wayne, just poor wording on my part. In some areas I expect they are more readily available but I should have said they are not common, if you walk into a parts store around here and ask for one. There are some outfits making 6 volt alterna...

Re: MC switching to 12V

If you are changing to a 12 volt generator and regulator you can polarize the generator to positive or negative ground as you choose. If you are converting to an alternator you will likely want to convert to negative ground. Commonly used 12 volt alternators are negative ground. There are few positi...

Re: Broken bolts where track assembly fastens to frame

Using description I see using my JD sign in and the hardware info I posted before: 19H2473 is a grade 8 hex head capscrew. 19H2592 is a grade 5 hex head capscrew. T21228 washer is 0.531" ID, 1.125" OD, 0.180" thick, Material shows as 1045F which I expect would make it grade 8 to match the capscrew. ...

Re: 6 Way Blade Hydraulic Piping Diagram

There are a number of hydraulic schematics in the hydraulic section of the 450B manual, including at least one for the 6 way blade. There is an on line copy you can down load at https://archive.org/details/John_Deere_Company . The manual is the center in the top row. I down loaded it in a pdf format...

Re: Straight 350 injection pump?

Welcome to the board. Was the check valve plugged? Did you see any "mouse turds" in it? If you carefully remove the small plate, held on by two screws, on the side of the injection pump you may see the "mouse turds" there. If so, then yes repair of the pump is in order. Did changing all the fluids i...

Re: 78 450c won’t turn over but one revolution?

Glad to hear it was running ok once it started. It sounds like a cable issue, so replacing them will eliminate that. Does your have a master electrical disconnect switch in the battery box? If so try bypassing it by hooking both cables on it to just one post on the switch. I have seen those go bad. ...

Re: 78 450c won’t turn over but one revolution?

Just kicking some thoughts around. I know you said you went direct to the starter with booster cables. I will say I have seen engines not turn over using that method due to cable size, condition, connections, etc. Just to be double sure I would go over all the cables, hot and ground, and the connect...

Check to see that the loader valves are in neutral. Does yours have a diverter valve that could be in the wrong position?

Re: 78 450c won’t turn over but one revolution?

Does it turn part of a revolution each time or does it not turn at all since that first time? Was it setting outside? If so was the stack covered? I doubt vapor lock. More likely is it has hydro locked from liquid ( rain or coolant) in a cylinder. Pulling the injectors will tell you if there is liqu...
