hey Lavoy, on the starter solenoid cable bolt that goes from solenoid to the starter itself, mine has a flat piece bent at right angle to the starter and it tends to throw a spark from under it....is that supposed to have some kind of insulator under it? it kinda looks like something is missing. as ...

well clickityclack, where are you located?.... if you have pumped 15 gallons thru the reverser, how much are you adding at a time? surely aint 15 one time. and you say tranny level not changed? what about any other fluid levels? steering? finals? rad? are hydraulics separate on 350? its gotta go som...

and on the suction line the filter will cause it to suck air!!!...my jd440ic was set up by po on the suction line and it was recommended to take it off and put it on the return line.....did take it off and no more problem,,suspect that 420 set up similar

Scared, even a back yard mechanic can work on these things, it is not rocket science. get the manuals and follow. First would just look at everything closely for worn broken things, check see what oils look like, drain a cup or so out to see if water contaminated at all oil drains, see what antifree...

It seems to me that when i was working on my 440ic--reverser, trying to adjust the reverse adjuster, it seems you have to have the lever kinda in neutral to adjust....while doing so i forgot to move lever back to engage and attempted to test and move machine to do so.....my machine then bogged down,...

just to compare, i have a jd440ic..gas job w/ 6way blade, paid $5k, so far, had to put $650 in steering brake and $370 in hyd cyls and $250 in hyd pump..and $50 n tuneup..not counting changing oils etc......so adds up quick...but she does the job!! she is only a 2 cylinder. once you get your 1010 ru...

Thanks to all you guys for answering my question before i got a chance to ask it!!! Mine has been puffing a bit of black soot and acting ignorant about starting,fortunately i had just ordered a tuneup kit and replaced everything but the cap....from DEERE which is the wrong one, but the old one works...

ok Jim B, part i got is definitely 1935038 and is supposed to be for the 12 volt system, cause he specifically asked if it was.....so what it appears is that have to use the 6 volt cap? by the way this cap priced at 24.75. And can the distributer be turned 90 degrees and use the 12 volt cap? If not ...

hey guys, i got tuneup parts for my jd440 from ma deere...go to put the dist cap on and she's off about 45 degrees before..from where my old one sets? what gives...made in china too !!! i put old one back on as not sure new will work. have enough trouble keeping her in shape. i don't have timing lig...
