Hourly rate.
I charge $100/hr, whether I bring just the dozer, or the truck, backhoe and excavator as well (since I can operate only one at a time). Same rate for move in/out. Plus I add fuel charge (can be $50 - $100 /day). Haven't worked for relatives; no problems with neighbors and referrals, friends usually ...

T-handle blade control
I started drilling the holes oversize and installing new "springy" roll pins bought from the hardware store. I think I went from 1/4" to 5/16". It was really hard to hold the pieces and drill the holes in line. So I finished the job by just replacing the old !/4" pins with the same size new ones. (o...

450B no steering
Inside the clutch housing is a vertical rod with a bushing on each end. An arm on top is activated by the steering lever through linkage. An arm in the middle engages the throwout bearing. The "Bs" get moisture in their housings which rusts up the bushings on this vertical rod, which gets stuck in t...

Low no-go
I'd try checking the transmission oil level.

shop floor
I built a shop in a 33x38 barn with 12'6" to truss bottoms and door top in Idaho. I poured 6" concrete for half of it and 12" of 3/4 minus gravel on the other for the dozers. With a 16' roll up door I could drive onto either side. I deepened and heavily reinforced the edge of the concrete. It was ea...

Reuse those discs?
Dennis, Well, you got 'em out - that must have been scary. I'm curious, where did you apply the heat? Did you use the impact wrench? You can reuse the clutch discs and steels, and if you were on a deserted island and reusing them was the only way off the island, of course you would. Your island woul...

Hi Dennis and all, You're getting some good advice here. Looks like I'm a little late to the party yet I rebuilt my 450 B clutches last summer so I've been through the mine field. It appears that you already know not to work under anything held up by hydraulics alone. I recently had a main hose brea...

Adjustments
Thanks Leonard,
That's encouraging and gives me something to try before breaking down the whole clutch. I'll check that out once it gets shipped to me.

450C Left Track Intermittent Drive
Fred, Have you had any more insights or successes in getting your left track to drive normally? I have not had the time to look into mine further but would like to get on with it. For the group: Does anyone have experience pulling and working on 450C clutches? I've done a complete rebuild on my 450B...

Other battery source
I've gotten good service with Napa commercial truck and bus duty batteries in my tractors. I think priced around $100-120. If your alternator is working you will measure about 14 volts at the battery with the engine running at operating speed, if not at idle, as well. This is a quick alternator test...

Similar Dozer, Same Problem?
Gee, lots of views, no ideas? My "C" has intermittent power to the left track. When the left track is in certain positions it won't pull and the right one does all the work. I try to steer right and nothing happens. Then I re-engage the right track moving the left one on around a bit, and it will en...

Track Bolt "wrenches"
Sometimes you can get a twelve point box end wrench on the square nuts, yet that may not fit all rails and all situations. I finally welded a piece of maybe 3/8" square stock onto a long bolt that I could hold with a heavy padded glove and wedge between the nut and the rail (keep your teeth out of r...

Bolt grades - relative strength
My understanding of the different bolt grades is that those with the higher numbers have higher tensile strength, meaning that if you are trying to separate the bolt (have it "fail in tension") by pulling it by its ends along its length, the higher grade will take more pounds per square inch before ...

Steering lever grips
I really love the soft "Charmin" feel of foam motorcycle grips on my 450s B&C and get them at the local motorcycle shop. They last several years of consistent use through the extremes of hot and cold in North Idaho. They slip on slightly tight and after a little coaxing, don't require any cement or ...

You might try "Norcan" in Spokane, Washington. They have lots of used tractor parts.
