Re: 450C drive lagging then nothing

A C is more difficult to diagnosis vs a B as the steering clutches are operated by the same pump as the transmission. We start by checking the transmission operating pressures and adjust first. If pressures are poor can be many causes but we check the steering clutches for leaks first. From there we...

Re: 350B shifting problem

Try engaging your reverser then stepping on the clutch. At times the Tranny gears are not lined up to shift.

Re: 450C Crawler w/Backhoe blowing hydraulics

Here is my understanding of how a hoe hydraulic system should be plumbed Pressure oil to loader valve Return line from loader valve to tank Power beyond fitting installed in loader valve Hoe supply line installed into power beyond Hoe return line tied into return side of tank, tee with loader return...

Re: 3325 winch

This would indicate the clutch portion is not releasing. You need the pull the cover and remove the clutch cover (left hand side when standing at back of your crawler) The clutch piston or discs will need servicing.

Re: trailer connector problem

Try checking the fuse for the brake controller, should be under the hood on a GM, is on my 2010. I use a plug in socket tester from princess auto (Canada) which looks like a 7 blade RV connector that plugs into the truck end and has indicator lights to show what is working or not. Your truck you get...

Re: 450C Crawler w/Backhoe blowing hydraulics

Is this a loader or dozer? A loader normally uses a power beyond fitting in the loader valve that sends high pressure oil to the backhoe valve, which then gets returned to the tank. A dozer machine often uses a diverter valve so you can either use the dozer or hoe. We have rigged up dozers with flow...

Re: HLR pulling in neutral

Unfortunately the normal cause of moving as described is problems with the HLR manifold caused by bad bearings. Do you have any transmission fluid leakage between the engine and transmission?

Re: Winter starting a 450C. Block heater? Tank heater? My options??

Drag on a 450 is not much of an issue if your clutch is working properly and stepping it down all the way. The clutch pedal cuts off oil to the transmission for the first portion of travel, then activates the dry clutch behind the engine. So only spinning the engine and hydraulic pump. Our 450C load...

Re: Transmissions 256 & 396

We have run into the same problem and had to change the frame rails. We were intentionally salvaging the complete rear end and final drives from a late model diesel and installing early model 4 speed and final drives.

Re: Any other 555 "Triple Nickel" owners out there?

Deere is about the only older skidder worth having for the safety conscious. The older 440 and 540’s had a hand activated parking brake, large wet disc enclosed on the rear of the transmission. For Clark and others brakes were an after thought and probably didn’t last past the first year. I’m curren...

Re: JD350C question

With the amount of labour involved to replace why not go new. We have went as far as welding 2 new couplers together and then cutting to maximum length to avoid future rebuilds. We ran Widepads with hoes and turned up to 3-179 engines so we took ever step to improve longevity and reliability. You co...

Re: 350 B Backhoe Options

We’ve done a number of conversions with both various models of case and ditch witch hoes. The big case hoe is about the best you can get although I have a Vermeer hoe loose that is just slightly bigger. We did try the smaller and older ditch witch and case hoes, they worked but we ended cracking the...

Re: 555G what plugs to pull and location to drain transmission hydraulic oil

On the G series machine the transmission is a large tub that holds the transmission and steering clutches. One big common open cavity. Holds a lot of oil.

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

I would recommend going the 4239 route. They have more torque at low RPM’s. We transplanted a natural 4239 into our yard 450C and works real nice. They seem to start easier as well. We just salvaged 2 of them from 450’s we got in and installed 4219’s. Both machines had main engine clutch issues so t...

Re: 9300 backhoe

I’m not sure if I’ve seen a loader with a diverter valve, normally a power beyond valve (screws into loader valve) would be used to allow simultaneous flow to both loader and hoe. The loader power beyond valve doesn’t fit a Dozer valve. We’ve installed hoes on both 350 and 450 dozers both with and w...
