Ray , I will check for the part number once we get a break in the weather , might be tomorrow or Sunday . Lavoy , Will get a email to you once I have the Lombardini diesel engine up and running again , it is for one of my ongoing projects and it is sucking all my equipment money up right now ...

Stan , When I did the rebuild on mine the little screen you pointed out was not there . So I was unaware of it . As for the pressure on the gravity feed system , it would be about 0.8 to 1 psi (maximum) water column of pressure so gasoline being lighter than water you would have less actual pressure...

Hmmmm , If you are talking about the arm that is attached to the throttle shaft , it should not be loose on the shaft . When I bought my crawler the arm was completely off the throttle shaft , years of use and probably abuse had deformed the end of the brass shaft to the point that the arm fell off ...

The shutting down and not restarting sounds as if you have a wire going to ground in the ignition system , first wire I would check is the wire between the coil and the distributor . Check for cracked insulation and for worn spots , if the wire appears good check it with a multimeter for an open cir...

Swampy , I have been thinking about your question on valve lash , I don't think that I would change the dimension enough to hold a valve open. If there was a problem with it than the service manual would state 0.012 @ 60 degrees F. If you had a valve laying around you could measure the overall lengt...

Anyone with a parts manual for a 420 Crawler .

Would someone know the part number for the bushings that go in the idler wheel . I am waiting for my manuals to come and would like to get the bushings . Since one side is bad do you think that I should do both side while I am rebuilding the final drives ? Also need the part number for the heavy sna...

I have always looked for mechanical challenges it work on , be it my 1969 Bolens 1050 Garden Tractor rescued from the weeds , fitting a old Parson's Shawnee backhoe to my Farmall Super-H tractor , building a four wheel drive loader from scratch ( on going project) , fighting with old Wisconsin TJD e...

Thanks , Ray . Eventually I am going to build a whole new blade and pushbeam assembly for this crawler . It will be a hydraulic six way blade . I have a few ideas floating around in my head to start with and have seen some other guys versions of one . I am not going to hack the existing set up so th...

Ready to run crawlers

It might be that a crawler that has been "restored' by someone else is of "unknown quality" . I have seen too many good paint jobs on a worn out piece of junk in the last ten years to plop down 5K on a piece of iron that might need 2 - 3K of parts or machine work to make useful again . The 420 I rec...

The Blade

The Blade we think was made for the local John Deere Dealers by Greenville Steel Car . The blades were fitted to the crawler at the dealerships . That would mean that this crawler was originally JD green in color . So green it is . Greenville Steel Car built railroad cars and was bought out by Trini...

Stuck bolts

Stuck or seized bolts are real frustrating when working on older equipment , over the years I have tried most all of the penetrating oils commonly available in the local hardware or parts stores . The one I use now is called Kroil , works great 90% of the time , If you have time to let it soak in an...
