This may be way off, but..... are you sure you have the lines connected correctly?? A cross connection will do it too. I had a tractor worked on and it wouldn't steer or just barely so. I checked and the lines were cross connected. The shop denied doing it and said it "came in that way". I won't pri...

I would get some 1/2" or so steel (same width as link ht) and make temporary links of the same length as original. Maybe a pipe for the bushing and grade 8 bolts to hold it together. This should hold for moving it to where you can work on it.

After looking at what you did, I wish I hadn't bought some tracks!!

I do have a question. What is the track width and how's clearance with the dozer?? From the photo it appears near to the original track size.

Second question about rust.... or.... preventing it

I will be reassembling things and have been considering making it easier for the next person (might be me). Do you use an antisieze product on bolts?? The adjustments such as brakes and clutches surely would be easier if rust hasn't set in. Is there a problem with the product migrating to bra...

Well the rusty side is done and none twisted off. I did have to weld nuts over the top to hold onto. My Sears open ends wanted to spring too much. I ground the nose down on a box end so that I could slip it under the tip of the bolt sticking through the nut. That gave me enough grab to get the job d...

I've been looking at my clutch problem.. :? Seems that JD engineers saw fit to place the bolts close enough that a 6 pt socket won't go on. One I tried wanted to round over. I'm considering welding a nut on top that I can get to. Also the heat from the weld should loosen it up a bit. This can't be a...

rusted bolts

What is the best way to remove rusted bolts?? My steering clutches look rusty and the bolts are small and look like they will twist off quite easily

I'm going slow to eliminate future problems.

Check the part where the tach cable attaches to the engine. The drive gear may be stripped also. When I disconnected the tach, there was a 2" piece of cable still in the engine. The cable housing was pretty rough. When I get time, I'll put a cordless drill on the cable and spin it to see if the tac...

The engine is out and on a stand. I had to make some extensions to get it on the stand with the flywheel still in place. Looks a little funny with the headlights still on it. I've been putting the bolts back in place when the part is removed and those I can't are going into a box. I noticed some pla...

What order??

I'm a bit new at dissasembly. Is there a "best order" to take a crawler apart? I don't want any damage from stupidity.   I'm talking literally all apart. Not the engine, it OK, but everything else. I have to replace the tranny case and work on the steering, also fix the rock guards...
