450B side frame bolts
Does anyone know the size and length of the 2 side frame bolts that go into the engine clutch housing? From the head size of the two that are still there I would say 7/8 but I'm not sure and I don't want to remove them now. Also do the holes that these bolts thread into go all the way into the clutc...

Thanks jdlou and jdemaris. Yes I saw a note in the manual to disconnect the neg terms on the batteries before welding. I've heard horror stories about ruining bearings and hurting electrical systems. I am an electrician by trade and I just don't see how electricity can take a side path like that. Se...

Question about side frames on 450B
This question is about the side frames, not the track frames.
What type of steel are they made of and what type of arc electrode should be used to weld them?
Unless the frame is removed from the tractor this would be a vertical weld.
Any ideas?
thanks

Well I have the tractor running again. The hydraulics are working correctly and I can't see any hydraulic leaks. I guess I got things hooked up right. While it was running I put it into gear and tried the steering levers. Wow, the spindles release and stop turning like their suppose to. Imagin...

I really busting butt to get this put back together before xmas. And re-assembly is pretty much the same as dis-assembly. I'm going to cheat a bit here and show you another picture from dis-assembly. But as you can see, you have to be really careful sitting the seat/tank assembly back on the c...

Getting ready to put in the new steel discs and used fiber. http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k598/bozo1236/100_1758.jpg After measuring all the used fibers I determined that the total wear was somewhere around 0.100. So I put an extra steel in first. I know, I know some say not to do that. http:/...

Hi Ken and Leonard I did do the linings myself. This is a first time ever for that kind of thing. I followed reddirt's instructions and that is the only way I would have tried this. http://www.jdcrawlers.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?t=5177&start=15 I am now in the process of getting the drums and ...

Unfortunately yes you do have to split the tracks. Unless you can think of some way to get the sprockets off without splitting the track. The sprockets cover a bearing quill that has to be removed to get the clutches out. Maybe we should just make a big hole in the sprocket so we can avoid removing ...

JD450 steering clutch disc specs
Can't seem to find this information in the JD450B service manual. It's probably in some other spec manual that I don't have. I checked with one vendor that sells these aftermarket parts new and they told me that for new thickness. Fiber should be 0.180 Steel should be 0.103 Of course that doesn't sa...
