Good looking livery of "toys".
What year is the Chevy dump truck? Diesel or gas?

Based on what you have described, pulling it off and popping the clutch would not be suggested. If the engine cannot be turned over at all with the way you described, something is preventing it. Pulling it off is not going to fix that issue, but likely do even more damage. The best way is to go in t...

No question that a lot of money can be spent getting these back up and going.
If you rebuild the 2-53 yourself, it can be done pretty low cost.
You will never need a set of tracks again!
Have fun.

"Over $22,000 invested", guess he did not get a good deal on parts or the restoration mechanic stiffed him?

You can tell that it is a fresh overhaul, the cardboard "paint curtains" are still in the area.

For starters, I would love to know where he located all of the correct parts to completely overhaul a 1010 gas crawler.

They left out the term "rattle can" in the "RESTORED" description.

Welcome!!!

You have a good looking 350B.
I had to wait until I was "younger" to acquire a crawler, but I was lucky. I have 3 now and could use several more but the budget does not allow.

Enjoy the best crawler site on the Internet!!

I agree with Jason, the value of the 440ICD will continue to climb. The DD engines are very unique and low maintenence provided you keep them serviced and operate them properly. They sip fuel compared to the JD gas 2 cylinder engine and have more torque.

Ben,

It is a long shot but places such as TSC carry a variety of springs. May want to look there to see if something could be made to work.

Lavoy, Yes, that is the one I rebuilt last year. It has all new "guts" including "N" pistons and N35 injectors. It is pretty sweet. I let it sit a while and did not have a charger on the battery. Had the battery been hotter it would have started quicker. Your recommendation of going with the "N" ser...

Ben, I concur with Lavoy on the white smoke. It is atomized diesel compressed but not enough to combust. I started my 2-53 in 42 degree temp this weekend with no external heat. It took about 20 or so seconds for it to "hit". Once it hit, it was running. It puffs out white smoke from the first crank....

Ask him to get a good full bucket of dirt in the bucket and raise it up. You should be able to see some of it's bottom side.
Dangerous without rear weight set.
Grousers on a full bucket loader are hard to turn and will tear up the U/C much faster.

Lavoy,

Thanks for reporting what you found.
Did you go back with copper pipe like factory or did you use rubber/hydraulic hose?

Part of the "old crawler" experience for me is to learn to repair and rebuild, find parts, etc. Now, I would much prefer to walk up to a machine, turn the key, and go to work. But, I would likely be driving a newer machine which is boring compared to a 1950's genra crawler. Chances are if you find o...
