Re: 420C compared to OC-46 questions
The model 62 blade that was factory installed on many 420's could have depth shoes bolted on to control digging up the ground when plowing snow.

Re: 420C and a flail mower?
Flail mowers pulverize what they are cutting and distribute it evenly, rather than laying down mats. They are excellent if you don't have to go fast.

Re: Logging Arch for my 40c?
I saw a guy selling a crawler with a JD 100 arch on a facebook page. The name of the page is "John Deere models M, 40, 420, 430 and 435." You would have to do some digging to find the post, it was a couple weeks ago. He is in western NY.

Re: trailer connector problem
You are better off plugging in your trailer connector and then noting what colors do what functions on the wires coming out the end of the cord. This cord should be going into a junction box that lets you move an eye terminal to the correct stud with the trailer wiring on it. I found the brake by ho...

Re: Spark plug wire location
If you imagined yourself rotating the distributor cap 180 degrees with the wires still attached, the wires would uncross themselves. So wires crossed is correct if the terminals are on the side away from the engine. The oil specifications call for 10W30 in the engine in summer, 5W20 in winter, same ...

Thanks, I will do some digging for better bolts. Unfortunately the ones I got say 307 on the head, can feel them yielding when tightening.

Re: 420c throwout bearing
There are steel balls behind the throwout carrier that push it out on ramps. I think the balls get replaced with whatever people can find, or not at all. They are important, as well as the adjustment of the link to the carrier. Lavoy is right, make absolutely sure everything is correct or you will b...

Re: Digging deaper into my Gearmatic 8a winch - includes pictures
The anchor blocks for the tension rods have a third bolt hole cast in them, but never used. Were the side frames supposed to be drilled for an extra bolt? I don't have a lot of faith in the 7/16" carriage bolts meant to secure the fenders. Asked my bolt supplier for the strongest carriage bolts but ...

Re: Mechanical Fuel Pump Question
I have been observing the minimum wage foolishness where I work. They cannot recruit employees, and the ones they have are unproductive and wreck stuff almost to the point that they are being paid to be dead weight. Yet the company thinks they are saving money by refusing to pay a little bit more, w...

Re: New OS piston clearance
The whole point of honing is to cause oil to stick to the walls, improving lubrication and ring seal. If you are getting bad results after honing, maybe you should let a machine shop do it.

The good Huskys start with a 3, like 372xp. The 572's are just for swearing at.
