Bill, I have not as of yet, but would do so. So far the ones I have done have been minimal enough wear that they could be built up and ground smooth again. I think 4140 would be an excellent choice. I would not want it hardened though, you do not want the risk of it shattering, it will need some fle...

At least some of it will be available from Deere, but will be expensive to say the least. I have or can get all of the parts you need, let me know when you are ready.

Brake is no problem, new rails and pads for that serial number are readily available for the most part. Idlers could be tough for new ones, used not too bad. Water pump should be no problem.
Have fun, that is what these old girls are all about.

Only thing I would say about cutting and welding in a strip is not to use plain steel. The trackframes are not hardened, but they are a better grade of steel. If you could find some Grade 80 or similar, that would be a better bet than plain cold rolled.

Given the general attitude I have gotten from them in the past, I wonder how well they were to deal with on warranty, or did they just blame it on you?

They do not appear in the straight 350 parts book, but that is not to say that there was not a bulletin issued later on how to install them.

The gear was not listed as a replacement part, you had to order the whole unit. Unfortunately it is obsolete, so only availalbe will be used.

Depends on the brand of clutch, but normally you pull the top 4 bolt plate off of the clutch, and there is a way to adjust it in there, been too many years since I did it.
