The age old to reuse or not on these head bolts for the 420. Anyone have any suggestions... or has anyone priced them lately at Mother Deere?

Bigfoot390- BLS here on this board has offered and is making some very nice technical drawings on parts others have made. I know he has offered his time on another thread and he has drawn some track tensioner parts I've had made. There are a few other pieces that I am going to have made and I will o...

Chuck- Congrats and welcome! I'd just like to second what Lavoy said. Pull it down and see exactly what you have. I found it's the best way to understand what's inside is to see it all apart. There's nothing tricky and nothing you shouldn't be able to get apart rather easily. You may find you just c...

Bill- This transmission is actually pretty good down inside.. the struggles are just with how sloppy the shifter lever is in the transmission. I've got a new bearing on the way and such.. and I'm sure straightening the lever out to where it should be will help more than anything. Glad you were able ...

Fan blades.. bent or are they normal??
So with the radiator, shroud, etc off the front the fan is easy to see. My question is are the leading outside edges supposed to be bent down as all four of these are?? Is this simply someone's way of trying to help get the motor warmed up?? I question b/c if it is a farm adjustment it was was done ...

This is what was put on this tractor... and just a handy tip I've found. If you raise the blade lift arms and strap them up they won't find the floor and it leaves a little more room under the tractor for jacks, motor hoists, etc. I just have found that everyone likes to move the blade lever when th...

420 4spd shift shaft disassembly
While I have the top of the motor open I figured I might as well fix the shifter up a little bit on the old girl. Popped the top off and quickly removed the shifter lever. I would like to get the shift forks out and look at the tops of them and repair as necessary. The question comes as to the squen...

420 w/61 blade Lift cylinder
The cylinder on this crawler has been replaced and I was wondering the dimensions of the correct cylinder. This one has a compressed length of 24" which doesn't allow the blade to be picked up but maybe 8" off the ground, if that much. I was wondering if possibly it should be a 20" cylinder which wo...

Finally got a spot in the shop last night and pulled it down. A little scratching and there it was.. a nice crack in the rear cylinder. Also looked like the head gasket may have been leaking a little on the front cylinder. All in all though it came apart pretty easily. I actually got all of the Exha...
