Re: how to get loader raised to gain acess to the engine
Hi I tried to start the 450 crawler today, pushed the button and nothing? Battery good, can't get to the engine to trouble shoot. I have a 30 HP tractor with front loader but it's not strong enough to lift the crawler bucket. any idea's how to get the bucket raised? Charlie. Does your ammeter work?...

I bought mine on eBay. It was the only place I could find it sold by the foot. Just search for "5/8 Power-twist". I've had OK luck with it, but I've had to tighten it fairly regularly and have had to remove 2 links already as it has stretched out over the first year of use. It seems to have finally ...

Re: 82 450C
I think there's a "true" neutral between 2 and 3 on the range shifter with HLR transmissions. I remember reading a thread about it here, but can't find it back now.remley wrote:Can i pull this crawler with the trans. in neut

I have to keep turning key about 10 to 15 times before it will crank over, its worst when hot. That sounds like it's just the solenoid. As far as I can tell, there were just 2 different solenoids that were used on these Delco starters on Deere machines. There are a million part numbers over the yea...

So it really does pay to tie them to something before adjusting things. I consider myself lucky that they never caused a problem. The last time I adjusted the steering clutches on this machine, I found a 9/16" wrench in the housing. Who knows how long that had been riding in there. I suppose it's p...

I had a bit of luck (sort of)
I bought my 450 three years ago. The previous owner had just replaced the left hand steering clutch, but the right side slipped a bit. It worked OK to use, but when I needed to really push (or pull) the right side would slip and howl. I just figured that the clutch discs were worn out or had been oi...

Re: technical support
I would like to pick a few brains. Right now I have a older 350 crawler loader. I'm not able to do all I need to with the loader. I'm looking at a few JD 450 and 550B. All with winches. I do some logging (for my self) in hilly terrain. I need some input. one of the 450's has really wide tracks as i...

Re: Looking for many opinions for a potential 450B project
Dave,
Someone's selling a complete 450B undercarriage on the Milwaukee craigslist for pretty darn cheap. If I wasn't so broke, I would have snapped it up already and I live even farther away than you do .

Has anyone repaired clutch fingers or is it going to need replaceing? My guess is it would be cheaper to just buy a new clutch plate than to try to get the old one repaired. I've never dealt with this place, but it was the first thing that came up when I searched for the part number: http://www.tra...

OUCH! Get well soon Charlie. Hopefully the ultrasound blasts it into a million tiny pieces for you. My wife had stones many years ago. She was sent to a nutritionist and after some tests they had her make some targeted changes to her diet and take a prescribed (phosphorous?) supplement for awhile an...

Re: smoking
tjdub, the comment was for blow by and not exhaust smoke. Blow by will put a lot of smoke out of the vent pipe. Not saying it's what Scottyb meant (or that the terminology is right), but in my experience people will often say an engine has blow-by if it burns oil and smokes even if there is no exha...

Re: Can the engine flywheel clutch from a 450 work in a 450b
Anything else cause blow by except rings? When the engine gets warm does it stop smoking? My 450 smokes like crazy after a cold start, but it clears right up once the engine starts to get warm. When I first bought it, it always smoked even when warm, but after adjusting the advance timing screw on ...

Where is a good place to buy parts for these dozers? The best place to start is http://jdparts.deere.com. If you sign up for an account with your local JD dealer you will see prices and availability. Once you know the JD part number for the part you want to buy, search around for the part number si...
