Re: 450 versus 450cc

Oops, looks as if my memory is failing me. I have photos of both SN plates, and neither is as I remembered. First loader: Type 450CA, SN 224773T http://jdcrawlers.lcent.com:8000/johndeere/albums/userpics/10050/normal_IMG_20170419_170759.jpg Second Loader: Type 450CA, SN 248894T http://jdcrawlers.lce...

450 versus 450cc

I recently got a second jd450 loader, but this one says it's a 450cc, my first is a 450c. I'm wondering what the difference is between them.

Re: 450C Leaking head or head gasket?

Sorry about disappearing immediately after I posted that question. Got busy at work and at home. Thanks for all the replies. Yes, I did use the copper spray on the head gasket. I was able to get the head back off last weekend and there was a nice, even pattern of copper on the top of the block and o...

450C Leaking head or head gasket?

I have finally started putting my 450C loader engine back together. I put in new cylinders, with new orings and packings. I got the head bolted on with a new gasket, put the cooling system back together and started to pressure test it. When I pump up the pressure in the radiator there is a loud hiss...

Re: 450C how to bar over engine?

Bump the starter. I feel a little silly now. I should have thought of that. The timing pin cover is great to know about. Thanks, all.

450C how to bar over engine?

I'm trying to do an in-frame overhaul on my 450C. I've managed to get the oil pan off the bottom and the head off the top of the engine. Now I just need to bar the engine over to get at the con rod bolts. Does anyone have a way to do that without disassembling the entire front of the loader?

Re: 450C engine serial number ?

Fortunately, the loader arms are up just enough that I can see the area between the starter and the fuel pump. I can see what looks like two rivet heads sticking up, and what looks like painted iron between and around them. I think someone has pried off the engine serial number plate. I have a pictu...

Re: 450C engine serial number ?

Between the transfer pump and the starter? That's not going to be easy to get to. At least I know where to look now, thanks.

450C engine serial number ?

I need an overhaul kit for my 450C loader: there is water in the oil, so while I have the head off I want to put in new jugs and pistons and bearings and so on. That leads me to three questions: 1) Where is the engine serial number? I can't see one yet, but that may be because it's hard to see the e...

Re: used undercarriage - worth it?

Thanks, Lavoy. Up here in Interior Alaska, new undercarriage will cost what it costs in the Lower 48 plus a thousand or more additional shipping. On the other hand, because of shipping, scrap steel is worth a lot less than $120 a ton! I may just offer him something a little above our near-zero scrap...

Re: used undercarriage - worth it?

Thanks for the replies. This fellow is just offering track, rollers and drive sprockets. What I have may be a little better than what he's selling, but after I've put a few more years wear on mine, that will probably reverse. If new chain, drive sprockets and rollers are going to cost $10 grand, $2 ...

used undercarriage - worth it?

I have a JD450C with some life left in the undercarriage. I'm using it at home, so I hope to get several years more out of the undercarriage. There is an add on the local Craigs List for a JD450-550 undercarriage. FRom the photos, the tracks look rusty, the bogies look less rusty, and I can't see an...

That does help, Ron. Around $1,500+ for fixing the steering problems is a great start. Finding good used undercarriage parts is tough? There probably aren't any new undercarriage parts for these old beasts? I don't have to be able to get my money back out of it. I figure I could be happy getting it ...

Looking at an MC, and I have some questions

I'm looking at buying a 1952 MC. It's old and ugly, and won't steer. When it last ran, it would go straight just fine. The left side steering lever moves a little, the right side lever doesn't move much. It's been converted to 12V by changing the original generator. It has a blade with it, and has n...
