440ICD Steering clutch
After loosening the throw- out bearing lock bolt, I can't get the throw-out bearing to slide. It will not move either direction and there is no free play in the lever. The cam works and releases the clutch, but it slips because it doesn't fully engage. Can it be the cam is frozen onto thecarrier bear...

1010 jumps out of 3rd gear
Lavoy--you're probably correct about the dash shifter--he didn't say anything about other gears jumping out--Still might have sprung fork in tranny. I know you've seen it all. Here's one for you-- When I got my 1010, it jumped out of 2nd gear. Someone had stripped the top-front righthand stud of the...

1010 jumps out of 3rd gear
Are you holding the gear shift lever or the reverser? If it is on the dash, I would think that it's the reverser. If it is the gear shift lever, the forks that slide the gear may be sprung slightly and not engaging 3rd gear fully. Lavoy's suggestion, to lift off the top will probably give you an ans...

common ignition problems
I'm unfamiliar with the M's distributor, but if there is a bushing on the shaft that is worn, it will change the point gap randomly and make it impossible to time correctly. Just grab the rotor and see if there is any side movement. gregjo1948

Just looks like a junction to run another hydraulic attachment. I don't see any control valve so,I would guess that you could remove it. gregjo1948

steering clutch tool/bearing adjustment
I can't afford a magnet but I like removing the final drive to fetch my socket out. Usually by the time I get into the clutch housing, I have forgotten why I was going there and find the socket still on the end of the extention. gregjo1948

440 converting to dozer
I put a cylinder on my 1010c blade which I believe is the same as you're refering to. I mounted it vertically on the righthand side and ran a diagonal brace over and down to the left side. I didn't put any protection around it but, if I were to be in the woods alot, I would put something in front of...

Thanks Reg Taylor--I checked it out. $650 exchanged is too much for me and I don't have a complete exchange. I think I'm going to build one using 2 auto brake master cylinders and it'll only cost around $100.00. It will also give me something to do and keep me out of trouble. gregjo1948

Thank you ALL for your info. I think I'll go back to the early model forum. The tone of the posts seem to be a bit arguementative on here and I'm very sensitive. gregjo1948

350 weight
KenP--Thanks for power steering info and I've said 350 twice. I guess i'll say 350 with no suffix. There are no Bs Cs Ds or any other letters after the 350. I've had several JD dozers/loaders and know the usual things to look for when inspecting a machine. I just thought there might be something unu...

350 weight
Thanks ALL--It's a 350 w/no rops. From the responses, sounds like my 1010 diesel w/winch probably weighs nearly as much. Can anyone tell me if the 350 has power steering or is it the same as the 1010? Is there anything about the 350 that was a common problem that I should look for? gregjo1948

JD 350 weight
I might buy a JD 350 diesel dozer with a hydraulic 6 way blade. Anyone know what it weighs? I've hauled 1010s with wide and narrow blades with winches before. With my trailer weight at 4500 lbs. empty; even a small dozer is a load for my 3/4 ton 4x4, 360 cid, gas, automatic Dodge. (loaded 7 miles p/g...

Thanks Jason. I don't really care what it's made of or who made it. I'd use anything that works correctly. I'm considering fabricating one. gregjo1948
