Leaking fuel filter drain.

I just changed filters on a 450 straight diesel and can't get the plastic bowl drain to stop dripping. The old seal leaked. I replaced the old seal with the tiny o-ring came with the Wix filter set. That did not help. It didn't look like it was supposed to go there anyway. Anyone know of a work-arou...

Re: 350 snow calk questions

Hi Jim My original plan was to weld a short piece of hardened grouser on top of the existing grouser but never got to it. An inch wide piece of hardened steel of 3/4" extension seemed appropriate. Not sure how much it will help. I will try to get to it this summer. It will tear up the roads more. Th...

Re: New pressure and temperature sending units for a 450 straight.

Thanks Jim Understand your confusion, I was not precise with the language. The oil pressure appears to be an aftermarket sender and and probably an original gauge. It is electric. I say "appears to be an aftermarket sender" because it looks a little odd. It has a screw down ring terminal connection ...

Re: 350 snow calk questions

Can you post a picture, a part number or a better description of the calks? My 450 gets scary on any side slope on snow. I was thinking welding extended grousers but I am wondering if there is a better solution. I know this does not help answer your question but I appreciate the help. Thanks John

New pressure and temperature sending units for a 450 straight.

Hey I am looking to upgrade a 450 straight diesel to electric pressure and temperature gages. I need some help with the threads on the sending units. The manual and parts list are not much help. The measurements on the coolant sender looks like a 1/2" NPT (about .84" od treads). Question: Is it stra...

Re: Dust proofing a 10SI Alternator

It is a pusher fan. I contacted a couple of alternator suppliers. They were not much help. I will look for someone specifically supplying alternators for farm equipment. I did see the marine shield on a couple of 10si alternators. I will take another look at those. Maybe the marine alternator plus a...

Dust proofing a 10SI Alternator

Hello I have a 450 straight. The original type alternator and the generic voltage regulator were replaced with an internally regulated 10si three wire system. It works great with the exception it pulls dirty air through itself and starts to act funny after a while. Ammeter jumps around and sometimes...

Welding on "side grousers" to prevent side slipping.

Hi I am using a 450 to clear ice/snow from a very steep driveway. It wants to slide sideways on a couple of switchbacks. Because of the drop off, any loss of control is more than a little uncomfortable. My neighbor said he heard of people welding a short grouser on the shoe pointed fwd/aft too keep ...

Re: H-flow pump puttin, total new lines havin- 1st time doin

I noticed the pump was rated for 1500rpm and 2000rpm max. The problem is you don't know what limiting factor the rpm rating was based on. Strength, flow rate, reach max. pressure, durability or ????. My old 450 spins to 2500rpm. I have no idea about the 350c. It looks like a great price on the pump....

Blower fan for a 450 straight

I am looking to purchase a used blower type engine fan for a 450(). I know there are a few new ones available but they are ridiculously expensive. I can limp along with a beat up one for a while. I will give it one more try before buying a new one. Send me a PM if you have one or know of where I can...

Re: Blower fan for a 450 straight

Maybe they are there to provide additional fan clearance for the crankshaft pulley. They are only about .080" thick so they can't be helping a whole lot. Oh, well still looking at other options. I would even consider an electric if there was a sturdy one available. Most seem wimpy even for automotiv...

Re: 450B power steering pump

If it is the same pump and assist actuators as a 450, it probably has air in it. I put new seals in the actuators and it took a long while to bleed the air. If you look in the reservoir, you will see fluid being pumped and air bubbling up when you pull the sticks. Now, no pulsing. I used hyguard, bu...

Re: Clutch and brake adjustments

As far as the manuals go, try to find the latest revision for the model 450(straight). The manual changed somewhat between the original Edition and the final Edition. I ended up with two editions. The first was an early revision that came with the machine and had some really useful notes by the orig...

Re: Blower fan for a 450 straight

I did not see that there was a substitution. I guess that OEM will be a fall back position if I can't find a good used one. I have a couple of other things I am looking at. $200 is pricey for a fan. By the way, do you know what the 24M7238 washers are for? I was thinking they were bushings but they ...
