40c 6v-12v
I have a 53 40c, my experience with it at 6v is all positive and my experience with using 12v without changing the starter to 12v is all negative, My opinion is fix the 6 v generator, as previous poster stated, not likely too much involved to fix it my 2 cents

MC hydraulic suction line
I had same problem, I cut the existing piece of steel and shoved a piece of hydraulic hose over the steel , at the ends and used 2 hose clamps per end, works fine on my MC

my 40c does the same especially in winter, all mine needs is lube were it goes into the housing, hopefully yours is the same

zerks vs button heads
To eliminate dirt problems if a zerk breaks, use one zerk and install hex head plugs, then use the one zerk and remove the plugs when greasing, takes a little longer and time is money if you are working by the hr, but for hobbyist???

as Lavoy says I have a Ramsey winch mounted on my 40c and chain driven from pto, very strong , just have to make your own mounting brackets, I welded a big nut unto the drive sprocket so that in a pinch it could be turned backwards

I have had mine off and mine has a master pin that has a circlip type retainer that has to be removed before you can drive pin out, , has to be real clean to find it.

40c hydraulic
my 40c has a float option, it is explained how to enable it in the manual. at least in my manual. There is a hex cap on side of control valve and if I remember rightly you take it off and tske the plunger out and reverse it for float?? Going from memory not manual. Try it.

I too have a 6v new gen from this site that wont charge unless it is polarized, I have taken it apart and ensured the brushes were well seated and cleaned and tightened all electrical connections and now have a pushbutton across the cutout to give it a shot to start it generating???

Better check serial if possible as I dont think it can be a 40c, maybe an MC???
