450 Won't Charge
I've got a straight 450 that won't charge. I've taken the alternator and had it checked out and it's ok. This dozer has a Motorola alternator and I presume it's original. I now suspect the voltage regulator. I just bought a new one (AR77485) but the plug is different. This is the part number in the ...

Re: Tach drive cable
My first dozer too. I'll look at it and make sure it's in usable condition. However I just checked the p/n for the 450 and the 450c and they are different. Maybe someone on here knows if they will work.

Re: Tach drive cable
I just had the engine out of my straght 450 and it had a tachometer cable but I don't have a tach and don't plan to get one. I don't know if it's the same p/n but if it is you're welcome to it. I didn't check it close but I think it's ok.

450 Power Steering
Just got my straight 450 back together and everything seems to be working fine except the power steering. The brakes and clutches are working properly but the left steering lever is harder to pull than the right. It feels very much like the difference between power steering on a tractor or truck. th...

Transmission Filter Case
Does anybody know if the transmission filter case (#10) can be removed without taking the top transmission cover off?
This is on a 450 straight.

Re: 450 Refurb
http://jdcrawlers.lcent.com:8000/johndeere/albums/userpics/10008/IMG_E0246.JPG The clutch housing had 1" bolts in it but I thought it strange that there was this strap welded on the two bolts. Seemed like a bit of overkill to keep them from loosening. After torching off the straps I saw the reason ...

http://jdcrawlers.lcent.com:8000/johndeere/albums/userpics/10008/450_JD__2.jpg I bought this straight 450 dozer a couple of years ago knowing it needed some work but I didn't know what to expect. The previous owner passed away and his son sold it to me. He was my neighbor and I'd seen it when he br...

Re: Straight 450 Brake Spring Question
Hey Randy. Yes I'm making some pretty good progress and yes I fixed the clutch housing. I'll try to post some pictures of my learning experience on this thing. I'll put them in the Show and Tell section.

Re: Straight 450 Brake Spring Question
I agree Jim. I did get the manuals for this dozer and that was my "first part". However the manual I have doesn't have an illustration like you posted. Thanks again.
