Re: 40c shifter
Found a broken spring in the 2nd/rev. shifter. Don't see any other major wear. All interlocks and the other detents work well. I will replace the shift lever bearing as well. If I use a second snap ring as suggested by Lavoy, where will I place it?

Re: 40c shifter
Thanks for the input. Stud in shifter cover looks good. I will replace bearing and double up on lock ring if necessary. I will also check detent balls and springs tomorrow as it appears that they are not working as they should on the 2nd and reverse shaft.

40c shifter
While working today, shifter stopped working. Transmission was in 2nd and working ok but couldn't shift out of gear. I removed the cover and as I had expected, end of shift lever had slipped out of the notch in the fork. I will disassemble per the factory manual and repair/replace whatever is worn a...

Re: New - Just bought a JD 430
Others can chime in with their thoughts on this but in-line filters may cause fuel volume problems with gravity feed systems. They are designed for pressure systems (fuel pump). I know that this a common cause of fuel starvation on Model T Fords that have had an inline filter installed. Another comm...

Re: 3 roller support castings
Dick, I don't know if you have the Model 40 Service Manual or not but it mentions that the roller sleeves are made of chilled cast iron. I don't know if this will affect your plan to machine new ones but just thought you should know. Good luck! By the way these units often develop cracks around the ...

Re: 420C "Skidder"
Hi Jack. I have nothing to add to what has already been said but just wanted to say hi from another New Brunswicker. I am in Saint John and have an old 4 roller 40c that I resurrected a few years ago. I have rebuilt the engine and one of the final drives and use it sporadically for twitching a few l...

Re: Icy Hydraulics
Thanks guys. I think I'll just change the fluid and flush the tank. I normally keep the crawler in a heated building in cold weather so it should be ok.

Icy Hydraulics
My 40c has been outdoors for a few months while I used my heated space for other projects. Finally went to move it inside a few days ago and the blade wouldn't lift. I jacked up the blade, chained it in place and moved the crawler inside. Tried it yesterday and hydraulics were back to normal. Probab...

Re: 1950 MC left track wont work!
What Ralph says plus there are 2 different hubs to match the splines. May be able to change as a set but if you are only replacing the hub you can only use the one that matches the axle. According to my parts book the "early" was serial numbers up to 15150 and the "late" was 15151 and up. Don't know...

Re: carb problem
Certainly sounds like a fuel flow problem. You have probably covered this but the first thing I would check is the flow through the fuel line. Your problem is a typical symptom of a plugged filter or partially obstructed fuel line. I'm not familiar with the 440 but if it has gravity feed make sure i...
