Re: 78 450c won’t turn over but one revolution?

Just kicking some thoughts around. I know you said you went direct to the starter with booster cables. I will say I have seen engines not turn over using that method due to cable size, condition, connections, etc. Just to be double sure I would go over all the cables, hot and ground, and the connect...

Check to see that the loader valves are in neutral. Does yours have a diverter valve that could be in the wrong position?

Re: 78 450c won’t turn over but one revolution?

Does it turn part of a revolution each time or does it not turn at all since that first time? Was it setting outside? If so was the stack covered? I doubt vapor lock. More likely is it has hydro locked from liquid ( rain or coolant) in a cylinder. Pulling the injectors will tell you if there is liqu...

Re: Jd 550b steering reservoir capacity

Welcome to the board. There are a few fellows here familiar with the 550 model and its different series. Hopefully one of them will be along to answer your questions. I don't know about the 550B but the 450E steering oil is supplied from the transmission. That is just a thought as the two are differ...

Re: Need help identifying a dozer

Guys, I think Lavoy's 21,000 was referring to an approximate serial number range not a value. I have seen 1010s priced from $1000 to $5000. What they actually sold for would be the real story. There is a post on the FAQ board with 1010 serial numbers and years. 21,000 would be in the 1961-1962 range...

Re: gearmatic winch

Where are you located, just general area? You might consider adding it to you profile. How far are you willing to travel, or will you pay freight if someone comes up with one? Do you have an area in mind you want to stay within for your search. I've seen a couple advertised in the past year, but not...

Re: lower carriage roller removal on a JD 450

The location of the missing tag indicates it is a straight 450 or a 450B serial number 142199 or prior. Is the serial tag still on your engine (located on the block between the fuel transfer pump and starter)? That might narrow it to the 450 or 450B. Injection pump numbers might be another clue. Hop...

Re: Help dating my JD350 by serial number

Here is the machine serial number breakdown using the 350 Introduction from the JD parts Catalog: SN = serial number T = Tractor 4 = JD350 E = Crawler loader 3 = Diesel D = Transmission (sliding gear with reverser) Serial number: 028400 (This number falls in the 1966 build range using the serial num...

Re: lower carriage roller removal on a JD 450

Where was your tag located? That can help narrow the range as the tags moved during 450B production. Is your serial number tag on the engine? That might help give an idea ( never a sure thing due to possible swaps) as the straight 450 was a 4-202 and the Bs started using the 4-219. Also look at the ...

Re: lower carriage roller removal on a JD 450

You really need to confirm what yours is. By serial numbers the straight 450s were built 1965 into 1970 and the 450Bs started production in 1970. In 1974 they started building the 450Cs while 450B production continued into 1976 it appears. If you post your entire serial number we can help you decode...

Re: JD350C - Doesn't Pull on Right Side

T = Tractor, 4 = Straight 350, E = loader, 3 = diesel, D= sliding gear transmission with reverser, 044109 = 1967 from the list on the FAQ Board as Bruce said, T = John Deere Dubuque Works (build location). It is not a C series. It will be dry steering clutches as Lavoy suspected.

Re: lower carriage roller removal on a JD 450

Numbers 7, 8, and 9 are called the guards (often rock guards), I think those are what you referred to as side plates. Yes, removal of at least one is required to get a roll out, the outer one is the one recommended for removal. You remove the outer guard and loosen the inner one. To remove the outer...

Re: JD350C - Doesn't Pull on Right Side

If you are not sure how to decipher the serial number to confirm what it is, post the entire letter and number string from the serial number tag and we can help you. Starting with some of the late model Bs the serial number tag is located on the front panel of the battery box/arm rest, right where y...

Hoping these things help, some may, other thoughts may not, just throwing things out and trying to be clear in what I mean; I don't want to be the cause of smoke if I can help it. lol. Have I guessed right on the type of starter, one with the solenoid mounted right on it, looks like the one your 350...
