Re: Aw nuts! Blade cylinders

First things first, Cylinder type. There are two major types of hydraulic cylinders and a minor one, so three total. Type A Welded, these cylinders have the barrel welded to the base, foot, or cast clevis end. The rod end is either another welded on piece or the end of the barrel is machined to reta...

Re: Someone asked, so here it is. The shop rebuild and addition.

Had a racoon try to take up residence in the attic above the shop, I do not know how long he has been in there but , I fixed the gap above the door to prevent it from accessing the attic anymore. I used a couple drops from some corrugated steel roofing or siding panels to close the gap. I cut them t...

Re: 1010 Crawler loader diesel engine oil recommendations

Ran an old Austin - Western grader for a friend of mine building his one mile long driveway... It required running the glowplugs on a 90°F day. If it dropped into the 40's you had to tarp the engine compartment, and run a turbo heater to get it started. No starter fluid allowed, as it was next to im...

Re: Someone asked, so here it is. The shop rebuild and addition.

Since, I last posted in this thread. :D All the steel roofing panels for the roof are here on site. I still need, 4 pieces of residential rake, 5ea. inside closures, 5ea. outside closures, the 2 X 4 X 16' (around 16 of them), a few 2 X 6's, a few 2 X 8's and about 350 #10 × 3-1/8" RSS screws, and th...

Re: Someone asked, so here it is. The shop rebuild and addition.

Well, I managed to get the area on the south side of the shop cleaned up. The major item in there was the IH R190 dump truck. It had three flat tires and the other three were low. The first thing I did was move my gantry that had been a swing that my dad built when I was a little kid. I moved a coup...

Re: Need advice on dealing with asshats

Here the phone is your friend, call them once a day, and only once a day, anymore and it csn be considered harassment. I ordered carbide inserts for my one obsolete tool bit. The online company is out of Pittsburgh. The charge went through (I checked) , but one information from the supplier. After t...

Re: Someone asked, so here it is. The shop rebuild and addition.

Well work on the shop is starting again. The first thing to do is replace the existing shingle roof with steel. I have most of the materials figured out. The new roof is a temporary fix until I have the new shop ready to be built. Once the new roof is on, I will start on the inside of the shop so I ...

Firewood in an airtight stove. Fuel oil when I won't be here for two or three days. The firewood is there for the cutting, dead standing, wolf trees and blow downs keep me in firewood. I hope to have a Axeman-Anderson 260 anthracite coal boiler ready to go next winter, with the fuel oil boiler as a ...

Re: 350 B Track

Buy a couple soaker hoses, lay the hose on top of the track, with a few sand bags laid on it to keep it in place. Turn on the water just so the the rail stays wet. Leave it alone for a week. Remove the hose and sand bags and exercise the the track. This worked on a friends 350 loader. It took three ...

Re: Moved Into Our Tiny House

Congratulations on moving into the "new" house. I have been gathering parts for a mill, but now have a couple new sawyer's with portable mills around here. Four years ago there were 5 or 6 who would do portable sawing, but their prices were out of sight. The new guys have taken up the overflow of wo...

Re: how to paint a crawler

You will save on yellow paint if you prime it then put a coat or two of ivory off white paint down before painting it yellow. Then 3 coats of yellow will work instead of 9 see thru coats of yellow  when spray painting with automotive paint. That's what my new paint supplier got me to do. And ...

Pondering..

Pondering while I am rebuilding the 420C, whether to go ahead and bite the bullet on switching over to 350 rails and sprocket rims. The bottom rollers all need replaced anyway, remember this is a five roller machine. I can get the 420 sprocket teeth removed on a CNC burning table. The owner of the t...

Re: 2010 wheel tractor ....

Did that with an Allis Chalmers combine one time. No head on it, supposed to be quick trip to buyers house. Ended up being a 12 hour trip, had to rig a gerrycan up for gas as the main tank was totally polluted. After that there were several other problems. :| Won't do that again.
