You might want to try using the email in his post to contact him. He could be checking things without logging in, but his last log in was a couple days after he made that post.

Re: Starter p/n for an '81 450C, need some help please
The on line John Deere parts catalogs show the current replacement starter for both the 450C and 450E as part number SE501428. You should check and confirm this for yourself.

Re: 440 IC Any available how too videos.
I don't know of a video, but there might be. If the right steering lever moves, adjustment could be way off or the bearing self destructed. If steering lever doesn't move something may be rusted/seized in the linkage. The right side steering clutch discs might be rusted together. Hard to tell what j...

Re: Purchase questions
Page 37, Internal pin and bushing wear (4 links), is where they tell about measuring from/to the pin edges. Yes, you would have to shut it off, there is no disconnect on many winch shafts. There may have been some with disconnects, but not common as I understand it. The disconnect would have to be a...

Re: Purchase questions
Welcome to the board. The measurement is normally taken from the front edge of the 1st pin to the front edge of the 5th pin. So yes, center to center would be the same. It is easier to use the pin edge than to try to find center. Machining marks on the ends of the pins, that might have shown center,...

Re: Winter starting a 450C. Block heater? Tank heater? My options??
This type heater is thermosyphon as Bruce said. Your heater should look similar to mine, the inlet is low on the side and the outlet is at the top when mounted, they are normally well marked. You may want to build a heavier bracket to mount it than the strap that comes in the kit. The block drain (l...

If you are finding material in the check valve on the injection pump my thoughts are there is a possibility the pellethane ring in your pump is failing. The larger of those pieces are often described as mouse turds, many posts here about them over the years, search pellethane ring. Sometimes they ca...

Re: jd440ic radiator fan, etc
A Delco number for the one I'm thinking it might be is 1119507. That is actually in the 1972 vintage GM products. They started with some of the internal regulators in 1973. That crosses to a VR103 Standard motor products or an Echlin VR142. That should help speed things up when you take your old one...

I believe the B series was the last to have the disconnect you mention. The parts catalog for the C series does not show a disconnect.

Re: 350 reverser
Hi Jason, I think your on the right track to run it some and check it out yourself. See how it physically operates and then do the pressure checks. You might drain it and change the sump filter, the JD price I see is about $8.00 (JD # AR26350, Wix # 51242, NAPA # 1242). That might make a difference,...

You say you have an alternator. !957 Chevy would have been a generator I believe so no, on using that regulator. You need a regulator for like a 73 Chevy (Delco 10SI 3 wire) alternator I believe. If you compare the two regulators the generator one is usually rectangular with screw terminals and the ...

Hi Bruce, It appears they started using just the corporate address on the tags when they changed. All the tags on my 450E have: DEERE & COMPANY MOLINE ILLINIOS across the bottom of the tags. I'm thinking it was a change due to them having more worldwide manufacturing sites, the we're one company phi...

I would go to the back of the head before returning hot coolant next to the thermostat on the off chance it might open some and let hot coolant go to the radiator. That said the one on my 2030 is working on as it is plumbed, and exposure to damage is minimal. I keep it plugged in to a 15 amp wireles...

Hi Bruce, That serial number a sequence looks like the one on my 450E dozer. If so the TO at the beginning is the build location, Dubuque Tractor Works. Then the model 455D, the X would be for loader configuration, followed by the six digit serial number. The T for the turbo on mine shows up on the ...
