Adding to the Fleet

Just curious what some of you wish you could add to the equipment fleet. Myself, I have quite a few additions I would not mind seeing. I figure I would break it down into two categories: Reality (as in, it might some day happen). Dreaming (as in, it is never going to happen, but I still want one any...

Re: John Deere 450 dozer

The 450 is a good all around machine. It will push quite a bit more dirt than the 350, but logging wise, they are about the same, just because it is hard to get more then 5 trees behind them. By that I mean, if you get 5 trees behind either the 350 or the 450, it will pull them to the landing withou...

Re: Making Tall Grass Short

I have run over a few chainsaws. One was a Husqvarna with my bulldozer which was not a bad thing because it was a Husqvarna, but I admit I said bad words when I ran over my Stihl with a skidder. Now I do not put the saw on the ground, but throw it up on my skidder when I am not actively cutting. I d...

Re: Purchase questions

I understand completely. Every situation is different, and it would be silly to think your place is exactly like mine. For me, I am working on logging off our White Ash before the Emerald Ash Borerer arrives. I got the majority of it logged off now, but I guess the Maine Forest Service has found a c...

Re: Question for woodworkers

Of course I am not thinking more highly of my parenting abilities than I should. Last week I was pretty proud of myself because my six year old made a snowman right in the middle of the driveway and I plowed all around it after another snowstorm, but never knocked it over so she could show her mom w...

Re: Question for woodworkers

Oh for sure, the wealthy are some of the nicest people, and I have worked for a few. I tends to be the people that worked their way up from little, that are generous. For the children of them, they have heard the stories of having nothing, and tend to be pretty respectful as well, but its the Grandc...

Re: Purchase questions

So, after adding a shaft you can't back up with it running something. Unless you tear into the trans and add an R, of course. Stan A baler is about the only thing I could see. It would have to be something with ratchet and pawl mechanism, or maybe a worm gear. Most things can spin backwards just fi...

Re: Purchase questions

I would not think twice about putting a PTO on a bulldozer, but I would think long and hard before getting a wood chipper though. I have one, but what I have found is, their stated "size" is about half of what they claim. For instance, a wood chipper might claim that it is 8 inches, but really about...

Re: Purchase questions

If I got another John Deere bulldozer, the first thing I would do is put a PTO shaft in it. I fully admit the set-up on mine was not perfect because I could not throw it in and out of pto operation with a flip of a lever, but it could suddenly do so much more. The ability to go anywhere was just pla...

Re: Purchase questions

A note on the winch... That bulldozer would rip that winch right in two if a person was to use it like a skidder winch, or like a real bulldozer winch. What I found was, it was often hard for me to get my bulldozer within hook-up distance of trees. I could grab 2-3 trees pretty easily by driving clo...

Re: Purchase questions

You can hook up a PTO for a John Deere 350 pretty easy and inexpensively. I had a 350D bulldozer and hooked up a 3 point hitch and did just that. I ended up using a fertilizer spreader on it, and a regular tractor type winch. I see no reason at all why you could not put a pto chipper on it. If your ...

Re: Question for woodworkers

Oh for sure, the more money people have (the wealthy) the more they hate to part with it. I sold some hay to an Amish Farmer this year who is well-known to be a Millionaire. The other Amish two farmers, they were just poor farmers and could not wait to pay me, but the rich Amish guy...yep I had to c...

Re: Question for woodworkers

A few years ago I was clearing forest into field in back of my house, and kept hitting slate. After a few boulders, I realized how much of it we had here, so I started pushing it aside so I could get to it later (Using a John Deere 850 for those that are concerned about such things) (LOL) I ended up...

Re: Question for woodworkers

Sounds good to me! We had a bunch of antiques given to us over the years, but none of it was a matching set, nor all that valuable. but after looking at it for a bit, we realized if we painted all the bottoms of the furniture a dark brown, then redid the tops with some Black Cherry that I had kickin...
