450c oil pressure falls to 5psi at hot idle

When the engine is started, idling oil pressure is about 20psi, at 2000rpm maybe 25psi. Once the engine is hot, the idling oil pressure will fall to around 4 or 5psi, around 15-20psi at 2000rpm when hot. Am I correct that this is too low? What is likely to cause this? Using fresh 15w-40 Rotella T4, ...

Re: What will I have to remove to change a 450C brake band?

Back to the original question: for future reference, is it possible to pull the steering clutch and brake band without breaking the track and removing the final drive?

Re: What will I have to remove to change a 450C brake band?

That worked! It takes a 3/4" drive extension to remove the plug. On the right side of the machine, I pulled out that plug and the toothed adjusting nut was right there, easily accessible. I pushed the TOP of the wheel AWAY from me until it got harder to turn. On the left side, the side with the shif...

http://jdcrawlers.lcent.com:8000/johndeere/albums/userpics/10050/normal_LoaderPipePlugs.jpg This is the left final drive of my other 450C. The left side of the photo is toward the front of the machine. I believe the pipe plug on the upper left is the one you're talking about? Looking in the manual ...

No, I didn't see anything to adjust inside in the manual. Where is this pipe plug? Can you point me to a manual page?

What will I have to remove to change a 450C brake band?

I've adjusted the steering lever as far as I can, and I still have no steering brake on the right side. Pretty sure I'll have to replace the brake band. From studying the manual and the parts book, I think I can pull off the hydraulic reservoir, the fuel tank, and then open the top to get at the bra...

Yes, thank you for updating this. It's really frustrating to start reading a thread and have it trail off with no resolution!

I know this is asking a lot, but if you can take some pictures of the process as you go it will help others.

Re: 450C "Milky" engine oil

I started down that track a while back, and found it was a HUGE pain in the rear to do that in frame. It is hard to drop the pan, it is impossible to drop the crank on my 450C loader because a frame crossmember is in the way. Since it's a loader, the arms are in the way when I'm working from above. ...

Try this search string in your favorite search engine:

450 steering clutch removal site:jdcrawlers.com/messageboard/

In duckduckgo that brought up some useful hits.

Re: Gauge sending units locations

Not every detail is written in manuals. You have to remember the manuals, especially technical ones are written for the dealer mechanics who have worked on equipment and may have had manufacturer training as well. If you don't have the factory training the manuals stink; very inadequate. Better tha...

Thanks for the replies. I hate searching for parts. I hate buying parts. :(
Searching for parts makes my head hurt. Buying parts is worse, because it makes my head and my wallet hurt. Installing the parts makes my back hurt.

These Stanadyne pumps are a complicated mess inside, and it's not hard to imagine that an air bubble somewhere inside would cause havoc.

Re: Model Identifacation and part number for cylinder seal kit

You're going to have to take the cylinder apart anyway ... why not now, and measure the orings? The $50 kit is probably nothing but $5 worth of orings.
