Hummm that explains a few things. It seems as though it will bolt in without issue. Is the parts book for it online? I know the 40C is. The gaskets seem to be pretty much the same otherwise.

It is just this seal that is causing me grief.

40C hydraulic pump rebuild

Hi gang, Have been using my 40C with a PTO driven hydraulic pump that has been rather funny looking. Also since it is not a live PTO makes working a bit of a challenge. Finally got a 40C engine driven pump to rebuild. It is in fine shape with no scoring but needed bearings and seals which is a simpl...

40c pulley pin

was working a bit with my machine and realized the pulley pin on the crankshaft pulley up front came out. no idea where it is and since I can likely order a replacement easy enough, what keeps this thing in position? it is not clear in the service manual.

Got my fiber disks yesterday and the gauge to set the pressure plate fingers from Lavoy. Spent a few hours getting it all back together this aft and was pleased that it was rather smooth sailing. Need to adjust one brake band and then it will be steerable! Next will be general lube and procuring a P...

When I brought my 40C home it was easily pushed up onto a small float trailer and would have been super simple with a come-a-long. Why not just haul it home to work on it? I just went through both sides of mine, 1 brake band on 1 side and 1 set of fiber disks on the other. I am reasonably mechanical...

seems as though I got the right side back together. still need to come up with a better screwdriver for tightening the brake band screw but the clutch disks were all fine. cleaned them up and now they are super grabby. in the end for some reason i thought you needed to adjust the settings on the pre...

dont suppose anyone has the measurement for adjustments of the pressure plate fingers? I know a tool exists for this but since it will be a one time use thing for me I would rather just make a wooden one.

Hi Jim, That makes perfect sense....and I like the word overtravel! By chance does anyone know the specs of how high the pressure plate fingers should be? Also would adjusting the throwout bearing carrier using the adjusting screw not server the same function? That being minimizing how much travel t...

well someone was kind enough to email me a pic of it apart and I did not get the correct two bolts on the back of it. Came right off after that though. Brake band was brazed at one point in the past and did not hold. The disks were fine but will confirm thickness once I find my calipers in the AM to...

40C steering clutch removal?

Hi gang, I eagerly await my JD service manual and it is not here yet...but want to get the steering clutch out on one side for new discs. The other side seems to steer somewhat so will try adjusting before rebuilding that side. So my question is what is the order of removal in order to get the clutc...

LF 40C hydraulic bits

Hey gang, My carb should be back in tomorrow....then muffler, steering clutches etc and might as well start the search for 40C hydraulic bits...pump, tank and misc items. Mine never had hydraulics on it which makes me wonder what they used it for! BTW it is funny my neighbors questioned why I bought...

Hi Jim, That is some damn awesome info and thanks! I will post of pic of it and my friends think I am a bit nuts for buying it but is looks so darn cool I could not refuse. It starts and runs fine and needs some work but for the price I paid I would get a workable machine for under $2k. Ironically m...

40C clutch repair

Hi gang, Brought home a 40C yesterday. Runs fine after I did a bit of wiring & choke cable. Govenor needs some adjusting still. I know it needs steering disks and that is #2 on the list but number #1 item next to fix up is the drive clutch. I can feel resistance when I press down on the pedal. Thoug...
