I have the operators Manuel for the Early 440 and it showed the letters on the seat.I think the 1010s had the leaping deer on the seat just not shore when they made the change.My 440 is a 1960.

Did the late 440 have the leaping deere decal on the deluxe seat or did they all have the John Deere letters.

I like the idea of having a key for my 440 because some times i need to leave it on a job.my show crawlers i leave the negative cable loose and remove it from the battery at the shows just in case? :)

I understand that Deer had a key switch for the 420 and up as an option.I wonder if it was just ignition or ignition,starter combo and how they did it.If it worked the starter then Amby the stud was for There solenoid set up.Just a thought.Ron. :)

I'm working on a late 440 witch someone changed over to 12v.The starter has a stud whair the switch would have been mounted and with a wire going to a starter solenoid off of it.would it have been converted to 12v?
Also what GM cars used the 12v points that fit thies distributors?

I apologize if I offended anyone for wanting to look for parts elsewhere.I didn't see oil seals listed in the parts section of this sight.

It wood be nice to have a page on this sight with Deer part Numbers that cross to other manufacturers.That way anyone who nows a cross number can Post it in one location to help every one :D

oil seal

Im looking for the part number for the oil seal that goes inside the quill that boltes to the transmition case.This is for a late 440 #461907.I have the parts book for the 420 and 430 and I think that the number might be different :?: Thanks Ron

I looked at my parts book for the 420,430 and it lists 6 transmitions 3,4 speeds and 3, 5 speeds for crawler and wheeled tractors.None of the part #s for the gears or shafts match up between thies trans maby do to difrent gear ratios.If the 5 speed trans is frome a crawler and its gears are in bette...

Your right thair oil soaked.I dident think that they would swell up that mouch?Who ever worked on it last coatted the shaft with heavy grease and I think it leached into the clutch pack.The sleeve that the cam slides on dose not fit tightly in quill. how tight should it be?

I have a late 440 and the left clutch is slipping.Tractor has been sitting out side for awille.I looked in side the openings and every thing looks dry but there is no free play between throw out barring and pressure plate and I canot get any adjustment.Im thinking that the clutch disks are swelled u...

I went to adjust the engine clutch when the control lever#T12875T broke.I then drove the pin out that holdes the adjusting lever#T12876T to the shaft and it to broke.They look to be castiron.Can they be welded or dose anybody have them that they want to sell?Thanks Ron.
