Project 2016

Every year my wife and I pick one big project and then try to complete it. Last year it was the building of our barn, while this year it is turning a 10 acre corn field back into a hay field. We kind of got shafted, but only because a local dairy farmer went out of business and ended up leaving hund...

I would not mind it right about now! I am in the midst of a pretty big plowing job. A dairy farmer who leased my land filed for bankruptcy and left me with a 10 acre corn field. I have nothing against corn, and understand bad things happen, but for a sheep farmer like myself, grass ground is more im...

in the big pine forest of Arizona, they can get sort of picky when you plant something that could threaten the rest of the forest. alot of restrictions placed on tree farms and what/where they can sell it too. heartier/different pines are not wanted in fear of changing the ponderosa wilderness. i c...

So you are telling me that BetsyBertha really was NOT in need of $10,000 in order to get her Great Grandmother home from Romania and that I should not have wired her half of it up front to help the poor little woman out?

Great, now you tell me; a spammer. :-(

That does not surprise me; in reference to 60,000 and 5000 registered people that is. The amount of mechanical knowledge on here is INCREDIBLE!! Other than an ability to weld and machine, I don't have much to add to the forum, but I do like to post stuff with some human interest such as what my doze...

You guys seem to have fun making these pics....that's cool. We do. A few years ago I rented a John Deere 850C to clear forest back into pasture and so out came the camera. I am not sure if you have ever heard of "Trash the Dress", but basically instead of the Mrs stuffing their wedding dress into a...

That is pretty funny Stan...a Goodies Ring. For the wife, she has to be in a pretty daring mood to wear her little red dress, but her I-want-to-go-out, but-not-be-to-conspicuous dress, is her little blue one. Its about evenly split between the two as far as what she wears we go out on our date night...

Forestry is just about the sole reason I bought my John Deere 350D. We just have so many inaccessible acres because its wet ground (like you can see in the picture of me and Katie). That woodland becomes loggable in the winter when it freezes, but then I had to contend with snow, and for my little K...

I am a bit miffed at my forester on all this though. She is really good, don't get me wrong, but she is used to working with absent landowners and not ones that work the woodlot and the farms. So when she did the Forest Management Plan she came back with some low numbers; a recommendation of only cu...

Nice job Gus! I am jealous! I just got my dozer and started making logging roads through my woodlot, but it is still spring here. The frost has just gone out and it was too muddy to make any really nice logging roads. I have done some ditching, but then a Christian Camp needed to do some road buildi...

Sadly that is true Stan. The Tree Farm Program started out pretty strong, but then lost some of its clout. Years ago they never paid their foresters, they were volunteers so while they checked in on new applicants, they never checked to make sure the older tree farms were abiding by their rules. We ...
