Lathes.....

I'd like to get a machinist's lathe, was to understand that I might be able to get a decent used one with saddle, tail stock, crossslide, decent head chuch, and feed for threads.... hopefully for under $1200. What's big enough to do what I may want to do with stuff that "we crawler/tinkerer/mechanic...

Don't want you to think that noone is paying attn. I've done a few different things, welding up and using a rotary file, and also overboring and bushing. But not anything that I'd recommend for sure on a big scale. It can be done. Curious to see what (if any) other comments everybody makes.

a bit of a tangent... but any thoughts to gas vs diesel as far as power? I know the diesel is harder starting and usually longer lasting. I have a 350 straight and food for thought.... if I find a decent diesel engine for a good price, how hard would the conversion be? (assuming lift pump and second...

should be able to use shims to readjust it to get it back to between the roller edges. they are about 4 inch by two inch with a 2.5 inch semi circle cut out of them secured by two bolts. They are visible just in front of the sprocket if you are looking from the side. See your owners manual.

there's actually a few posts about this.. I believe the general consensus is that the metallic disks are a good idea but surprisingly the original disks seem to have the best results.

the only thing i would ask, is maybe a note to give a tip about reassembly. I had a problem with needing the first clutch plate to be behind the large snap ring, as the problem wouldn't be apparent until having problems, pulling it apart again and finding broken clutch teeth. The manual I had did no...

actually.. in truth... I should say the brushhog itself is not mine. I get to use a buddy's equipment in exchange for fixing his stuff... He has the shaft that came with it, (probably not more than 45 hp or so, and i'ts starting to look rough) and I use a soft bolt for the shear pin. I really need t...
