Buy the "Umbrella seal tool" and give them a smear with diesel when you replace them and thread the shaft back into the pump to reinstall.

Rick
Very wise suggestion.

Re: 450C injection pump issues

Search mouse turds. Common problem, pellethane ring on governor coming apart probably blocking check valve on top.

Re: 450C hydraulic pump removal

Is there a way to test the volume/pressure? Short answer, yes. But, most people don't have the correct tools to do it. Would require a flow meter, relief valve so you don't blow it up or shear the shaft, a needle valve to restrict the flow of fluid and a pressure gauge. Would be cheaper to just get...

Re: 450C hydraulic pump removal

If your's is like mine it has a gear pump, an aluminum bodied gear pump at that. They really aren't rebuild able, other than seals if it were leaking externally. Was it making noise when warm and worked hard? As suggested, it's much easier to R & R the pump with the nose off.

Re: 450C final update and valuation

Good story.... we appear to have a number of things in common; I HATE Lawyers as well I also was in the Navy, Flying Navy 72 - 76 Vietnam Service. And I can not leave anything alone, even stuff I borrow from people which I've had to do on occasion. Most love to lend me stuff, the reason is that I wi...

I trashed my fan when the water pump went out, it was a pusher. I bought an after market fan from Summit racing. It has worked fine for me.

Re: 450-C engine oil

Looking to acquire a 1974 450c crawler loader. The operator manual says to use 30 weight oil and multi-viscosity oil is not recommended. Is it OK to use 15w-40 diesel oil (Rotella, DELO, etc.) and do any forum members use it? I use the Rotella 15W40 in the JD and my old Ferguson tractor with a dies...

Re: Broken hyd hose

I have a 450C and I replaced all those hoses, all I can say is they are a joy to get in and out. The easiest method I found was to pull the rear pin for the lift/boom cylinder and get the rear of the lift/boom cylinder to move forward so you can get at the fittings. I used a combination of crows fee...

Re: 450C will not stay running

FYI, Tool for compressing the seals on the shaft when installing the pump is a stanadyne 13369. Look at the pilot tube (Stanadyne 16320) inside the body if it's badly grooved you'll want to replace it. You'll know if it's badly grooved when you remove the pump, it'll act like its stuck on the shaft ...

If it is the governor ring, you might consider replacing with the updates dampner ring, Stanadyne # 29111. Got mine from usdiesel.

Re: 450C will not stay running

It's the injector pump, the pellathane governor ring is coming apart and probably clogging the the check valve. Temporary fix is to remove the check valve and clean the mouse turds out of it. Search "Mouse Turds" This is somewhat of a common problem.

Re: Another fuel problem 450C trackloader

I rebuilt mine and replaced the dampner ring assembly with the updated dampner assembly, Stanadyne PN 29111. Got my parts from usdiesel.com, you will need to find or make the tool to remove the Cam advance screw. you need what is called a Bristol Wrench, Stanadyne PN 15499, got it from mgs4u.com, PN...

Re: Another fuel problem 450C trackloader

Try removing the drain line and the fitting with the check valve on the top of the IP. If there is any blockage from the ring it will get lodged there
