Re: Track weight?

A quick Google search found a post from 2012 that says 600lbs per track. Sound right? Trying to figure out if I can carry a set of 5 roller tracks in my Chevy Colorado, or if I need to bring the one ton.

Re: Major incident at work today!

For what it's worth I'd suggest making sure it is clearly documented that they are the responsible party of record for the release, and you may want to talk with a lawyer that is good with environmental law. Often times, once a spill is on the books, even if it's "clean" by current standards the reg...

Sugaring

I know it was a farm dozer for most of it's life, I wonder how many gallons of sap the old popper has pulled out of the woods over the years (I only do about 80 taps so probably 400 gals for me this year). Pulls the trailer way better than my Kubota in the snow and mud. Anybody else sugar? http://i4...

Re: spring? here?

Our winter was very strange this year. Normally we get a thaw in late Jan but it usually stays pretty cold and on average we have 2-3' of snow on the ground most winters. This year we had about 2 weeks in early Jan where it stayed well below zero. Diesels were gelling left and right, it was awful. T...

Re: spring? here?

Snowed here this am, but a nice crop of frost heaves are growing in the roadways so mud season is here. Realized this morning we are starting into month 6 of stoking the woodstove. It's a strange feeling every May not to have to stoke the stove every morning. Ah, northern New England.

Re: Where the hell does stuff disappear to?

When I was much younger I worked for a brilliant guy that had an interesting approach to this problem. He figured that everytime you needed a hammer to work on something you wouldn't find one, but when you didn't need a hammer you'd find the one you lost someplace that wasn't obvious. As such, he ju...

Re: Jd 40c good price or not?

The winch on the 440 is a huuuuge plus. I use the winch on my 40c almost as much as I use the blade, between cutting wood, dragging "collectables" around the yard, etc, it's really handy.

Re: Carb and why I hate gas engines

I dunno, gas motors have some pluses. I hadn't started my 40c since Thanksgiving. Its been below zero for two weeks straight. It fired right up yesterday no fuss, and runs like a top. I didnt even need to jump it. My '17 Duramax gelled New Years day, and my old Dodge 12v wont even think of starting ...

Re: This global warming thing is down right cold...

The idea of limiting carbon emissions to control climate change (sorry, the science is absolutely bullet proof even if you choose to ignore it) it is absolutely no different then the idea of issuing hunting licenses instead of just walking out and shooting as many deer as you want. I don't hear man...

Re: This global warming thing is down right cold...

It would appear I have opened a big ol can of political worms with my post. Sorry about that.Just an observation: as world population has increased(some would argue exponentially) the people require more resources:food, shelter, goods, infrastructure, etc. This has been met at a cost with more mining,m...

Re: This global warming thing is down right cold...

Around here, moose population is down over 50% in the last 20 years, there are ticks are showing up like crazy when I never had even one on me as a kid, warm water fish like tuna are showing up off the coast where the cod used to be thick, and the oak trees are creeping north replacing the beech, bi...

Re: 420C Seal Beam Light Wiring

I've spent some time searching for 6V LEDs to no avail. I've got a cheapo 24" LED light bar and a couple of spots on another piece of equipment they make night into day. Wish I could figure out how to get one on the 40c without all kinds of conversion nonsense.

Re: Quite the Blow

Logging is an incredibly dangerous game. We had a good family friend die in the woods about 10 years ago. He had logged his entire adult life (30+ years). This was a guy that knew what he was doing. He didn't show up for dinner one evening, so after waiting for awhile his family went looking for him...
