Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old
It was a turbocharged 4219 that came out, and the 4239 going in it's place. So yes it is turbocharged. I thought the Turbo designation was after the engine number. 4239 4 being a 4 cylinder, 239 cubic inches etc. So 4239T should be correct right? :) I guess the most important thing is to have the di...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old
I did find a serial number plate on ebay that the seller is engraving for me It will say 4239T JAN 2020 It is 3.75 X 1 inch and was only about 20 bucks. I did find the perfect John Deere reproduction data plate with even the correct hole spacing. It said model and serial number. I know I don't cut c...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old
I am having a little difficulty locating an unstamped model and serial number data plate for this new 4239 engine. I have found numerous data plates for older tractors etc, but nothing for these 300 series engines. I should put something on the block in case I sell it someday or I become forgetful. ...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old
Anybody who wants to talk jeeps or crawlers is welcome here anytime. :D I too am looking forward to the end result. I have had it for 5 years. The head gasket was intact for about 20 minutes after my first fix which was actually the second fix after discovering in some notes the previous owner had d...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old
Well I am trying to keep momentum going on this crawler. We had family for a week and there seems to be plenty to do that keeps me from getting much done. I had several calls out looking for the seal and wear sleeve installer. Even the closest JD dealer. No go so I ended up making one. I had trouble...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old
300 bucks is a lot for a special installer (JT30040b) to use for ten minutes and put in a drawer. There is another one that was 699.00 (KCD10002). I collected most of the metal to make one. It will take me a bit and I will have to set the seal depth by measurement, but I suppose it can be done. If I...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old
That is the right installer I see. I did not know about those. Thanks Jim for finding and posting that. Yikes, I am finding prices from 250 to 700 for them and I am not sure they fit. I have a call to a heavy equipment mechanic friend to see if he has one. I wonder if I could fabricate one and measu...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old
The link to the manual is great. Thank you. But it is the same info I have in my TM-1102 crawler manual. It shows installation of a rear main that comes in two pieces. The inner wear sleeve and the outer seal. The replacement I have here is a integral unit that I cannot separate. At least it sure lo...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old
I got my clutch finger height gauge today. Thank you Lavoy. It is very nicely made. I have a question for the more experienced. 4239 engine. Or 4219 for that matter. The rear main seal... It has the replaceable wear sleeve that is a light press fit on the crank. The main body of the seal presses in ...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old
Those are getting hard to come by. I would wash it, wax it and give it it's own private hook to hang on. I am glad I have one on the way from lavoy. Otherwise I would be trying very hard to get you to send it to me and trust that I would return it after copying it. And I would return it as...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old
Hi Jim, The counterman at the dealer said it was a JDG227. I found that to be the valve plate remover when I looked at home. So naturally I was puzzled by that one. I checked his card he sent me away with and sure enough, he wrote JDG.... Mkay... So it looks like it is Jd227A instead. Anyone reading...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old
I live in the middle of nowhere about 40 miles from Canada. I have really bad services. Phone, internet etc. I'd be better off with a can and a string... I will try to call you. Thanks Lavoy.

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old
I just returned from picking up my surfaced flywheel and connecting rods. While over there in the town next door I stopped in to the JD dealer parts counter. They brought out a tall stack of gauges. Sure enough they had a JD227. I put a straight edge under it to simulate a flywheel and measured to t...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old
Cleaning each and every part. Parts are arriving. I am trying to find a clutch finger height for the 450C. Is is different from the B? The new pressure plate arrived yesterday. I pick up the flywheel and the new rods with the pin bushings that have been fitted to the new pins in 2 hours. Apparently ...
