Would the heat damage the track chain? Do they have to be unbolted to do it? Is there a better way?

We have a local think tank, the former estate of a wealthy couple. The Mrs inherited in 1959 900 million dollars. As you would expect the decision maker for an organization like this had walls covered with diplomas. He wanted a pond. He challenged a local excavation contractor to build it. He decree...

I once wired a log house. The homeowner wasn't nearly as smart as he believed himself to be. On a fixed budget, he made expensive blunders one after another. Early in the project he contracted with a low bid excavator to "dig a hole for a foundation" With some excavators you could do this, not with ...

If I read right they may be made of diamonds?? At the time (40 years ago) I remember conversation of the new crawlers the loggers hadn't found time to cork would inevitably end up upside down. The joke was you had to throw away your pants, would it be battery acid, or $hit? High manganese grouser st...

Corking a crawler, 450B

A local logger bought 10 350s at one purchase. He had many other John Deere crawlers and skidders. All of his got corked with alternating 2 or 1 short pieces of grouser stock. At the time I was a kid, the people who did the work are gone. What sort of steel are track pads made of? Can they be welded...

I often see haulers flagged for violations. I hear the stories of being fined heavily for dirty taillights, or mismatched tire tread. In VT, several varieties of police contact AOT experts who like nothing more than burying us in fines for minor violations. Here, a BMW driver can get away with murde...
Hi, Oh, yeah! She will notice a crawler, all right! Looks too different.... ;) Stan
You haven't met Nancy. As long as she only sees one tractor at a time, that's how many tractors there are. However, among 10? stuffed animal Christmas decorations, one gets eaten by our ...

I have a 9 ton trailer, and a C65 (27500 LB Gas powered) A 450B (14500) or a Case 580K 16500 are the heaviest I'd consider. That's a 23000 LB trailer.

Shelter

The plan: Machinery shouldn't sit outdoors unprotected. That's my opinion. I hate to build a barn on the "land" The listers are like vultures. I'd pay an extra $500 a year in tax with a $2000. structure. I talked the local steel/scrap dealer out of an old oil tank. It's 8' diameter, 18 feet long. Th...

Re: Stuck Winch Cable 350b/arch
I did not notice the .5 inch cable had a birds nest when I tightened up on a pull with about 30' of the 100' of line out. Pulled a few logs and went to let out more line so to get safely out of reach of a big tree in case it came down on me, only to discover, how tight the over lap ...

I'd like to have a logging winch for my new to me 450B. Are they available? It occurs to me spending years looking for the accessory everyone else wants is a waste of time. Other options are hydraulic winch or electric. A frame could be built like the Farmi winches sold for three point wheel tractor...
