There is a set that will work on the 440, figure about $4000 for the conversion.

Re: JD 420c Crawler Hydraulic System
Probably not enough info to give a real accurate answer, would need more info on factory or jobber hoe. But the short answer is if it is already at correct operating pressure, increasing it will just break things. If capacity is not enough, then you need a larger hoe, not more pressure.

Crawler radiator is unique to the crawler unfortunately.

Re: 440 vs 1010 Finals
Internals are different, some other differences, but I BELIEVE they will work. If you have a diesel crawler, gear ratio will be different.

Re: MC grinding noise
You can't really "see" the front bearing enough from the top to get a good idea of condition. A hardened roller in a bearing never smooths out. Run it and the bearing will fail, or whatever else is feeling rough will fail.

Re: '68 350B right side final drive removal
You do not just arbitrarily add or remove shims, you need to measure the freeplay in the shaft, and adjust for proper preload.

R & R only, there are no new crawler water pumps available.

Re: 420c reverser through the motions
Not unusual, the clutch might be dragging just enough to keep it spinning. Make sure you don't have excess freeplay in the clutch pedal. Can also be the pilot bearing going bad or already bad and spinning the input shaft.

Not positive, but I think you might be able to get by just taking off the cylinder bracket.

Re: Oil on my steering clutchs
Normally keep all the parts on hand, I think I have a parts manual on hand too.

Yes, I have a OEM service manual on hand, do you need parts as well?

Re: jd420 pics
Not the most fun piece to remove, they are usually kind of rusted in place. You will have to pull the rear cover gasket to hold the ring gear on reassembly, so I always remove it, and try and tap on the quill from the inside out.

Re: Oil on my steering clutchs
Either the pinion shaft in the final drive or the carrier seal in the rear end. Oil can not be cleaned from clutch discs, they must be replaced.
