Thanks Lavoy, the shaft rotates and the shifter rail slides freely. I picked it up yesterday and it seems to be in pretty good shape except that the exposed part of the front clutch assembly is pretty rusty on the third of it that must have been sitting out of the oil. But everything seems to move. ...

440 Reverser
Hi, I'm going to look at a 440 reverser that has been taken out of a machine that hasn't been run for at least 6 years. I've been told that there is oil in it and I plan to open the plugs and look around. Is there anything that I can do to get a sense of the condition that it's in? Also, my crawler ...

Gearmatic Winch
I just picked up my second 440, mostly for parts. The Gearmatic winch on the back seems to be rusted up because when I engage the PTO and let up the clutch it stalls the engine. I could use some help to identify which model winch this is and also where I might find a parts list and shop manual for i...

Gil, I have to admit that I do enjoy that little extra excitement when the wrench slips and hits the bottom of the tank while loosing the bolt on the battery cable. It's a coordination thing... Thanks for the input guys. The local Napa store has a 950 CCA battery for $105 that is 9 3/8" high. I'll a...

6 Volt Battery Recommendation
I'm finally replacing my 6 volt battery on my 440-IC. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good HD battery? Are there any batteries out there that have side-posts so that installation/removal and charging isn't so dicey?
Thanks, Roger

8 Volt Batteries
My 6 volt battery died on my 440ic and it's time to buy a new one. I often use my machine to push snow and when the temps are down below 0 deg F it really turns slowly and sometimes doesn't start. Any thoughts on replacing it with an 8 volt battery?
Thanks,
Roger

440 serial number
Is there an engine block number on the 440ic that can be cross referenced to find the serial number? Thanks, Roger

6 Volt Headlight Bulbs
I just read ratskinner's post below and have to agree that it would be great to have brighter headlights because I always end up plowing snow in the dark as well. Has anyone found any higher lumen 6 volt bulbs out there, maybe LED, that would work?
