BK, Do you have any other models on CD? such as the 350 or 450? Rob, at this time I haven't done anything on the 350 or 450 crawlers. I've been watching for manuals but they all jump out of my price range. If someone has a loose leaf parts and/or service manual for these crawlers and would be willi...

Additional manuals are now included on the CDs

I've recently finished scanning in and converting into searchable PDF files the following manuals, Detroit Diesel 53 Series Operators Manual, John Deere 63 Dozer parts catalog and the John Deere 1010 Crawler parts catalog. If you previously had purchased the 440 CD from me I'm going to set it up for...

Re: Fresh Meat

My first question, is tools. Other than the obvious wrenches and sockets etc, what have you found to be the MOST useful tools to have to keep one of these rigs ship-shape? Having bought a 60's era machine, you can probably tell i haven't got a lot of money, so gimme the MUST-haves. :-) Paul Newberg...

Brad, There are easier ways to do it. The aftermarket scarifiers use a drawbar similar to a 3PT drawbar. The ripper arms hook to the bottom of the drawbar, and a cylinder/s hook up higher and actuate the scarifier. I think I have one aftermarket scarifier mount left. Lavoy Lavoy, Out of curiosity h...

Rippers

I'm curious as to whether any of you have built your own ripper setup for your crawlers. Following are some assumptions I'm making on how you would go about doing so. Keep in mind my crawler doesn't have a rock shaft or 3-point hitch bars. So whatever I would need to do would have to be fabricated b...

Well this may not be the best idea in the world but if you're going to be building an add on to the back of the shop why not open a small hole in the wall and use a log chain or cable to pull it into the shop and then patch the hole until you finally add on?

Just a thought.

440 ICD engine detail question

I'm in the process of putting my Detroit diesel back together and as shown in the two photos below there is a bolt that holds a round spacer that is mounted right next to the oil gallery pressure tap. At first I thought a previous owner might have stuck it on there for some reason but then I got to ...

Detroit Diesel assembly steps

I've finally got my shop cleaned up and reorganized enough that I can start assembling my 440 crawlers 2-53 engine. I've been browsing through the service manuals, both the JD version and the DD version and I've noticed that they don't really describe or suggest a specific order of assembly. The man...
