Still more progress on my field though in doing so I found some more rocks! It rained like the blue blazes last night so I put on my 6 foot grader blade to help out a few problem spots. The biggest issue was where I came together when I plowed. I just go around in circles so when I meet up in the mi...

My first moving violation was Operating a Bulldozer across Paved Way; it is against the law here and I knew it, but who would have though the Deputy Sheriff would stop some farm kid at 10 years old for the offense? Some people I tell you; like we don't pay taxes on both sides of the road to help pay...

Hey thanks TigerHaze. I found it last night and tried an aftermarket parts guy with no luck, the John Deere themselves. They can get it, but not just the front idler, but the entire assembly. $800. :-(

I did pretty good today. 4 Days to plow those 10 acres, two days to get all the rocks out, then today I graded it. I won't lie and say it is completely graded because its not, I got some more to do, but it is getting a lot smoother. Now keep in mind I am using what I got, so I tried dragging a 24 fo...

Broken Front Idler

So much for my rebuilt tracks lasting for awhile. I have been working it pretty hard and sometime over at that rock-infested Christian Camp that I volunteered my dozer for, it shattered the front idler. About half the flange on both sides of the center rib is completely broken away! I have a service...

I am constantly fighting off the scrappers here when the price of steel gets high. They think just because it is old and rusty that it never gets used; well not on a sheep farm. It is funny how Lavoy was mentioning how moldboard plows are making a comeback. I watched a video on Youbube about compact...

I am a big fan of silage. Thankfully I have sheep so they do well on silage. I just have an issue with waiting 3-4 days for the grass to dry while with silage (grass silage) you can just mow and chop in the same day. Right now I am aggressively looking for a decent flail chopper. That is the answer ...

I have done that several times here Paul because it is about the only thing you can do for removing rock walls. Back when all they had was oxen, they only hauled rocks a short ways so the field tended to be small. It was not too bad with the old tractors but now that we are approaching 400 HP articu...

I bet that was cool to see Lavoy. I was not there to see this, but at the Christian Camp where my dozer does a lot of charity work (it is there now), they had this old lodge sitting on rocks for a foundation. A decision was made to a basement for the place instead and so they used an old cab-less Jo...

My ex-wife always said I was "born retired", that is I always hung out with people far older than me, but I learned from them too. Not saying I did not make mistakes (hence the ex-in the wife part), but as a young one, but I never got into smoking, drugs or alcohol...and always was frugal. This is M...

I have always liked plowing. I guess it is watching that soil roll off the moldboard endlessly and ending flipped upside down with dirt covering it. There is various thoughts on it now; some are saying it works good at getting rid of compaction versus other methods, while some say its no good. Verti...

The old Dearborn plow has some history though. A neighbor wanted to plow up an acre of ground and at the time our old Ford 900 was out of commission with a bad 3 point hitch, and you guys know those old tractors...take away the 3 point hitch on a Ford 900 from the 1950's and you did not have much. S...

Well I am not there yet, still a lot more to do. I left the one acre with rocks because I call it Lucifer's Acre...so full of rocks because a few years ago it was a forest with 90 year old trees. I cleared it to make an L-shaped field rectangular. Oh is it full of rocks.
