My 420 service manual says to fill the pump before attaching the lines. It says it's a self priming pump,
but I'm sure it need the oil in the pump to create the suction to prime itself.

Re: Hydraulic blade lift
You can try running it up and down a few time to see if any air is in the system. Chances are the one or more seals in the cylinders are leaking. I ended up replacing both cylinders, even though I think only one was bad. After I put on the new ones, the blade stayed up for a week.

Re: Oil and oil recommendations
I use fluids from Tractor Supply in both my 420C and 40U. The engine calls for 20 weight in the summer, and 10 weight in the winter. I used 30 weight in the 420 because it was all I could get at the time, oil pressure seems normal. Transmission calls for 90w, but I used 80W-90, and the same in the f...

Put the coffee on, and I'll come watch you. Not sure where you are in VT, but I live there too.
I can always learn something.

Re: Dry in the head
dtoots1 is correct, the line comes off the bell housing and goes up to the head. It's the same on my 40 and 420. Tooks pictures but can't post them here.

Re: Dry in the head
On my 40 and 420 there's an oil line from behind the oil filter to the head.

Re: 420 masterlink pin
I think the gib plate holes are threaded, so I can't imagine what's going on with the inside one.

Re: new to the 450c crawler need help died and won't crank?
You should edit your profile and add your location, there may be someone near you to look at it with you. You need a test light or volt meter, and start checking the test points in the wiring diagram. It's for a 450B, but it may be the same. Start at the battery, then both sides of the circuit break...

Sounds electrical if the starter won't crank.
Found this on this forum. Looks like there's a safety switch, and a neutral switch.

Re: 420 masterlink pin
Like Lavoy said, they are on either side of the idler axle. They hold the plate that has the hole in it for the threaded rod/bolt onto the bottom of slide rail. They are basically either side of the double nuts on the threaded rod. Be careful of not losing any shims.

Re: 420 masterlink pin
An easy way to remove the adjusters is to remove the 2 bolts that hold the gib plate on the bottom. They have a 15/16 head, and are either side of the gib where the 2 nuts are tightened against. Then the whole spring assembly will come right off, and you can get it up on a bench to loosen the nuts. ...

Re: 1958 John deere 420c track adjuster conversion possible?
Hi Guys, Regarding adjusting, once you get the nuts turning, I made a tool to adjust them. I took a common box-end wrench, sold for trailer hitches and cut a section out of the 1 1/2" end, just large enough to slip over the threaded rod. The cut out section is on an angle, so you hook the longer pa...

Re: Thread Search for price
So your saying neither track slips, I assume that's when pushing dirt. The machine turns left OK, but when turning right it's not as sharp. If this is the case, I would think the right side brake isn't working as it should. Maybe its not adjusted properly, or the lining is shot. Can you look through...
