You did not say if one track was locking up, or both tracks. Obviously different symptoms. Either way I would head Lavoy's advice and not run the crawler until you diagnosis the problem. It would be great if Wizner85's master pin scenario turned out to be correct but I would lean more to a final dri...

Using red ATF fluid is fine (although most people on this board use Hy-Gard, spec 303). Fill the reverser to 1/2" to 3/4" below the access hole in the right of the case. It will hold a total of 3 quarts. Gil

Last time I rebuilt one of these valves, parts were available from Deere (at a price). You can change the speed of a valve's action with different orifices. Biggest concern of course is the condition of the swing cylinder. No help there from Deere. Gil

Those large springs are only under tension when the track is stressed extremely tight. For example, if you crawl over a large rock, or if the track is packed with mud. If you have any slack in your track you can remove the front idler bolts and the spring will not move. Gil

I am embarrassed at some of the cylinders I have taken to my local hydraulic shop. Cylinders with gouges a hone would never touch. Even a bent rod... that I told the shop was "kind of straight". Maybe they are just used to dealing with farmers who want to save some money, but they are willing to tac...

If you take your cylinder to a local hydraulic shop they can bore/hone it for you and they will have matching seals, etc. I used to try to do the easier jobs myself, but I found that the prices, around here anyway, are reasonable and they have the right equipment and parts. One suggestion, if you wa...

As gregjo1948 mentioned, it would help if you would restate your exact situation. It might be easier if you would use "right" side and "left" side. You may understand already, but it is important that you understand that the steering lever activates not just the track brake but also the clutch. When...

davidn3; You did not identify if the lever has no resistance on the side where the track is pulling or on the opposite side of the crawler. If you are talking about the side where the track IS pulling, it indicates that the steering clutch pack is not releasing on that side. What impact does the ste...

You adjust the rear clutch first through the two inch drum plug hole on the right side of the reverser. The right side is the driver's right hand side if sitting in the seat. The direction reverser handle is usually on the left hand side of the crawler but it can be relocated to the right side if it...

Yes, more pictures are always good! One comment though. If the pictures are too large they expand the width of the frame displayed on the screen, including the message text. People with wide format screens won't see a problem but people with smaller screens or screen rotated into portrait mode may h...

This might be the time to take an old flea market wrench and use your torch to cut and bend it into a shape that will fit onto the nut. If you can remove the nut, you would be much better off putting a seal (rubber, leather, etc. washer) between the nut and the case. Any liquid sealer or epoxy you j...

At the top of this page you will see a link that says "visit www.jdcrawlers.com". Click that and you will go to the main page with a link that says "view our parts listings". Here you will find just some of the parts that Lavoy sells. He is the one that runs jdcrawlers. If he sells it, he has tested...
