Re: JD 450C no crank

Sounds like time to change the starter. Murphy's Law will come in to play, and it will be completely dead, in a worse location, at a worse time, if you don't.

Re: 350 Reservoir filters x2

For the reverser filter, AT15088T. The T suffix was dropped from most all the parts years ago, so the number became AT15088. According to the online parts catalog that number has been replaced by the current number, DZ118239. There is also an alternate shown, the part number for that one is A-AR2635...

Re: 350c thrown track

Unless it has been changed to something other than a JD adjuster, or someone has replaced parts incorrectly, it should have a 3/8" steel ball under the set screw that lets the grease out. See item key numbers 7, 8, and 9 in the parts drawing. https://partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/sidebyside/equipment/...

Re: Availability of Transmission pump new, rebuilt, or rebuild kit for 75 550?

Guessing/listing things it might be is just that - guessing. It could be the pump getting weak, it could be a seal starting to fail, it could be something else. You need to be sure you have the proper technical manual, study it and do the diagnostic steps and pressure checks in it to try to pinpoint...

Re: Availability of Transmission pump new, rebuilt, or rebuild kit for 75 550?

According to the parts catalog that pump is not used in a straight 550. The part number for the transmission pump for a 550 is AT44150, I believe. It shows as available to order (about $2700) on the JD construction Equipment dealer's site I use. Of course some NLA parts still show as available. Did ...

Re: 350c thrown track

There is supposed to be a steel check ball under the bolt you removed. Be careful not to lose it, you need it to seal the hole when you put it back together. The ball is the seal the bolt with locknut holds it in place. The ball often comes out in the grease, that will push out when you collapse the...

Re: 440 ICD engine help

To clarify you have a 440ICD (2-53 GMC diesel) crawler equipped with a John Deere 831 loader attachment, not an 831 track loader. You say it was underload when this happened. Did you lug it down enough to stall it? I have known of old "jimmies" stalling when under load and starting/running backwards...

Re: fan belt help

There is a lot of knowledge on this site, so someone may have had this same issue. I checked Gates and they recognize the CAT number, but using the interchange to a Gates belt, says no replacement. You might consider checking out the Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owners Club. Here is a link to it: h...

Re: 450 B or C

To avoid confusion. Transmission (including steering) and Hydraulic are two separate things and systems. They use the same type fluid but do not share it. Hydraulic fluid (Hy-Gard or equal) is the tank under the right arm rest. The hydraulic filter is there as well. You check it using the sight glas...

Re: 450 B or C

It is likely a common sump by now, and the level is checked using the transmission dipstick as the transmission, differential, steering clutches and finals are the same fluid sump. The sump uses John Deere Hy-Gard or a UTHF meeting JDM J20C specs. Do you have a 450C manual so you know you are making...

Re: 450 B or C

I have linked a page from the 450C parts catalog which shows the top rear cover on the transmission case. It has two spool valves operated by the steering levers and shows some of the hydraulic lines attached to it. Does this look like what is under your crawler's seat? If so, it should be a wet ste...

Re: 450 B or C

Welcome to the Board. With no serial number it could be a 450, 450B, or C, which were all similar in sheet metal. Start with finding where the serial number tag was located. Se where you find two 1/8" holes about 3 inches apart. http://jdcrawlers.lcent.com:8000/johndeere/albums/userpics/10023/450_ea...

There is a JD Construction & Forestry Bookstore https://www.johndeeretechinfo.com/ . You can order direct from them, if you want I would recommend using the number in the help section and calling them if you want to order there. Something is going on with their website. It used to be fairly easy to ...

Re: Deere 820/2010 track loader/backhoe Final Drive disassembly

Tom, It appears you will need to give each person access to the pictures. I get a message to request access and expect others will as well. As for parts, talk to Lavoy (owner of this site). Early JD crawler repair and parts is his business. You can email him at postmaster@jdcrawlers.com or call him ...
