Re: Flywheel Issues 440 GMC

If you weld an old GM 14 Bolt brake drum and a 3' piece of 2" schedule 40 pipe on top of that it would make a great bench grinder or vice stand.

Re: LED 6 & 12 volt bulbs now available

OK. Do the 430-later ones come complete with housing? I'm running cheap aftermarket 6v lights now. Need to check if they have replaceable bulbs, but would prefer new light assemblies.

Re: LED 6 & 12 volt bulbs now available

Are the 6v LEDs much brighter than standard bulbs?

Re: 6 volt change to 12 volt

Just an FYI, I saw one of these installed on a late '40's 6v Willy's pickup recently: https://www.optimabatteries.com/en-us/redtop-starting-battery/6v I've run an Optima 12v in my offroad truck, and it is an amazing battery. When my current 6v goes, one of these is going in. Headlight availability a...

Re: Aw nuts! Blade cylinders

I scored a nice blade for my 40c but one of the cylinders had similar water damage. I pulled it apart, and rigged up an engine cylinder hone on a piece of threaded rod and honed it myself. Packing looked half way decent so I ran with that. It's far from perfect, but for $0 invested it's good enough ...

Annual Christmas Tree Adventure

Headed out back for our annual tree hunt last weekend. To ensure success I brought the 40 with the winch, a fender box full of chokers, the 372xp and the backup saw, the trailer, and my qualified assistants. Not sure how many kids do this kind of stuff anymore, but mine love it. http://i481.photobuc...

Re: Heating Your Home

Interesting concept on the feller buncher. Does the saw move, or do you just push it into the tree? I bet it works good for what you've designed it to do. I thought about trying to mechanize my operation, but I only burn 5 cord so it's hard to justify much of an investment. Now I just twitch the woo...

Re: Heating Your Home

I use both pellets and wood as primary heat, oil backup. I have a Harman pellet stove and love it. I have heard that other brands can be a nightmare, my friend has one that they need to vacuum out every day. I fill the Harman once a day in the coldest part of the winter, and only clean it a couple t...

Re: Are all women crazy, or is it just mine?

Let's see, I'm the one that is endlessly dragging large pieces of rusty scrap metal home and leaving them in the yard or better yet dragging them into my garage and scattering the parts to the four winds. I'm the one that doesn't have to mow the lawn because the grousers/tires on the equipment and/o...

Re: Fuel wont Bleed after Fuel Filter replacement

My father had an International 500c dozer and the fuel system on that thing was a bear to bleed. First time I changed the filters I tried everything and still couldn't get fuel past the filters. Someone on the International forum suggested popping off the fuel filler cap, and putting a couple of ps...

Re: Old School Land Clearing

You can rent a good size, brand new excavator for around $3k/wk (maybe even less if you do a 3 month rental), and you can do maybe 5-ish acres in a week if you work at it full time. I'd go that route if your time is not the limiting factor. I worked for a guy that had an old Cat with a stumping blad...

Re: Track weight?

Agreed. Tracks werent quite as nice as I was hoping but the price was decent enough. Need to stretch them out tonight and get a wear measurement. Bushings show almost no external wear but pads have some side to side slop.

Re: Track weight?

Thanks, I took the one ton and I'm glad, they would have been too mich for my little truck. Now have a decent set of spare tracks and a nice set of sprockets.

One track will need a couple pins and bushings but the other looks good. The rails are almost 1/4" higher than the ones I have on now.
