Blower fan for a 450 straight
Hi I am looking for a six blade blower fan for a 450 straight. Equivalent to an AT27701. Either new aftermarket, oem, or used in good condition. An aftermarket that can be adapted would be ok also. Has anyone tried an electric aftermarket on the front of the radiator? I thought I could find anything...

Re: Brake band dragging on a 450()
Closed it up with the brake band detent backed off another notch. The extra travel at sticks before the brake engages is more than I like. Aside from that the function is fine. I will run it for a while and then try to re-adjust it.

Re: Brake band dragging on a 450()
I am pretty darn sure none of the linkage is sticking and that the return springs are in place. I just rebuilt the clutch and brakes last fall. Only have about 30 hours on it since. Everything I could see looked right. I went through the whole process again this morning. Exactly like the manual says...

Brake band dragging on a 450()
I put new brakes and clutches on a 450 straight about a year ago. Brakes were set intentionally loose when reassembled. After about 20-30hrs the brakes got quite a bit looser so I went through the manual's process for adjusting. To the ABSOLUTE letter. The clutch was still dead-on but the brakes wer...

I tried to contact him by email a month ago with no response. With the whole Corona disruption he may just have pulled back for a while.

Re: Oil and HLR filters
I will use a JD filter next time. It has to.be the only item JD sells that could possibly described as inexpensive. If the quality is there I shouldn't complain. I will open it up and see what's inside after it gets some time.

Oil and HLR filters
I just changed engine oil and HLR filters on a 450(). Both had Wix 51243 filters. Being an aircraft mechanic I cut the filters and had a look at at the elements. The Hlr filter had some John Deere color paint chips on it. Does JD really paint the inside of the Hlr? I noticed some similar chips in th...

Re: Blade float on a 450() with a Drott 4 in 1
Figured it out. It just takes a lot of force to get into the float detent. More than I am normally comfortable putting on a control lever. It works well. Owned the dozer for a couple of years and never knew the function existed.

Blade float on a 450() with a Drott 4 in 1
This might be a really dumb question. Does the a 450 straight with a Drott 4 in 1 have a float position? I can't seem to get mine to get into that mode. Is there a trick with the controls? Is it just broken, modified or somehow badly adjusted? Does the 4 in 1 even have that feature? The ops manual i...

Re: Possible water pump issue, JD450
Another question: It looks like the parts for a rebuild will be available and by Deere standards relatively cheap. The question is rebuild it or buy the assembly. I have a bearing press and it looks straight forward to rebuild. I have asked Lavoy to price it both ways.
Any opinions?

Re: Possible water pump issue, JD450
It has been running cool. I will not be able to take a look at it until mid week. Getting the fan bolts off looks like the biggest challenge. I need to come up with a plan.

Re: Tachometer options
A company called "Tiny Tach" makes them for diesel engines. All it takes is a clamp around one of the feeds to an injector. It is digital and keeps track of total hours and job hours. It is backlit for when you are working at night. I have been using one for about a 2years and it is still working fi...

Re: Possible water pump issue, JD450
It sounds like there are three recommendations. Reading between the lines, take the nose off. Replace all soft parts. Do it now. I will have to set up the scaffold to remove the nose and radiators. Probably save more time in the long run. Another question:. Any service on the radiators that should b...

Possible water pump issue, JD450
I noticed that sometimes when shutting down the engine there is loud rattle coming from the front of the engine just as it is coming to a stop. I am thinking it is the water pump. It sounds like rattling sheet metal. No noise when running. There is about 1/4 of an inch play at the fan tip. Water pum...
