Both steering clutch housings were cracked. The previous "mechanic" that had it apart also neglected to put the dowels back in between the housings and the transmission case. I got new housings for a good price. I know there are ways to repair the housings, but really couldn't argue with the pricing...

Martin To get at the castle nut you do in fact have to pull the final off. If you look in the first picture there is a circular cavity below the steering clutch/brake in the steering clutch housing. This is where the castle nut sits. It is bathed in the transmission/final drive oil, so it is all sea...

I agree with Lavoy's thinking that the shop you used isn't on the ball. If your spool or bore is worn , it still can be fixed. Most Caterpillar hydraulic re-man centers have the capability to re-chrome cylinder rods and control valve spools, and in most instances can re-size the spool to fit the bor...

Ran into this on the second 350. Search for a part number of AU14022, its basically a screen. No idea why some have and some don't. Or when it got added or deleted from production. And if Leonard hasn't seen one then they must be rarer then hen's teeth. Only way I could find it is in the 350 loader ...

Many thanks for the kind comments. Sorry Stan we already have 1 420 crawler project to do, then a utility that needs work so thats enough 420s for now  The 3310 and 3315 are similar with the exception of the control setup. They are both built like a tank. The 3315 has it's own oil pump and cont...

Update
Hello again JDcrawlers! Figured I'd post the end results of the dozer on its original thread. Many thanks to Lavoy for parts and hosting this site, and to the members, past and present that have offered help and motivation. Many more thanks to my Dad, without his welding and fabrication skill this m...

There is a block drain and a port in the cylinder head, both are 3/8" pipe thread, and both are close together. No drilling, teeing or whatnot needed. All you need is some heater hose and barb fittings. Also is a 1/2" bolt hole to use to clamp the heater to nearby. Deere recently changed their vendo...

getting other info that the final drive has a seperate fill plug. No need to be confused any longer, the plug in the final drive is drain plug, and your book is correct. If you want to check out the other links to older posts, there is a faster way to fill the steering clutch housings, but filling ...

Guys please don't compare different models of machines when giving someone advice on something so specific. There are enough differences within one model, let alone two. And to those of you telling someone to check a plug that you obviously don't have experience with, please stop! If you're not sure...

I'm not sure how much I can add to the conversation, but as a long time member of the site who has kind of "backed off" for some of the reasons above I'd like to make a few comments. For starters, Ken is getting allot of flak over a situation that he does not deserve it for. Looking back over the 2 ...

Not to poke a hornets nest here but I'd like to say one thing: Allot of people on this forum are probably familiar with Green Magazine, for those that aren't its a JD only tractor magazine. In the back of GM you will find a section called "Mr. Thinker" . It is basically a tech support , or ask the m...
