Does the gov. open when you start to lug? Might be lack of fuel--check for restrickion before carb. Might be timing. Good luck. gregjo 1948

That color smoke sounds like coolant in cylinders to me. Try preasure check of radiator. Rough low speed might be injector pump or simply coolant in cylinders affecting proper firing. Good luck.

I think they had a belt pulley.

On craigslist,(Binghamton,NY) farm&garden, there is a 420 with an outside the tracks blade. Anybody know if that is stock? I've never seen one before.

Too much air--not enough fuel. But why the backfiring? I'd check ignition timing, check for fuel flow ubstuction, then adjust carb. Greg
