You mean like putting the throttle linkage together, and installing the gas tank, then realizing you forgot the spring that goes behind the dash on the throttle? so you have to tare the tank back off that had 5 gallons of gas in it, which is easier said than done. Then pull the thank and scratch the...

13 tooth pinion out, 14 tooth pinion in. Took 15 minutes. Easiest thing to fix thus far.

Next is blade mounting, fenders, hood, and grill. Then time to play!

Thanks Lavoy. I will check both sides to make sure all is okay. I'm not sure which side has the wrong pinion gear yet, I think it is the right side. I have a couple 13 and 14 tooth gears so I'll make it right. And your parts you sold my dad worked just fine on the tractor, no issues. I'll make sure ...

So I took te final apart today. And yup, there it was. A nice 56 toothed bull gear. Put in a 55 tooth, buttoned the machine up. Drive it 15 feet and still steers to the right. $:$/)/)) you have got to be kidding me. The pinion gear is wrong too. Ive lost my mind at this point and have learned a valu...

Update. Got a spare set of 440 tracks this weekend. They need new pins but the chain is great. Buttoned the machine up enough to take it for a spin. And then it happened. The worst possible flipping thing that I feared had become a reality. Yes, it is that moment when you ask yourself why in te hell...

From what I'm told large tranny has a 4 bolt plate over the ring gear. So if both have this plate I think you are fine. Not sure when small tranny was stopped. I'll let everyone know how much fab work is involved with this... Worst case I think the hood needs chopped by an inch......

440 large vs small tranny

Well, just found out if you put a large style tranny as a replacement for the small style, you will be an inch off on attaching the bell housing and engine to the c channel. Took me two hours of measuring to find the small tranny is literally 1 inch shorter length casting than the larger style. So n...

Pics aren't clear on how good undercarriage is. I just see not a lot of adjust ment left, and pads look to be rolled over. I think what is funny about tractor prices is this: A JD 420 or 440 in good shape with good undercarraige and dozer blade or loader you can get 3000 to 6000 depends on condition...

Missing fenders ($500 for new ones), seat is wrong ( $200 and up), some kind of board on back of tranny??? No idea but that could get you 5 bucks in scrap? No rock guards Tracks look spent Easily a grand in parts just to make it closer to original and another 2000 or 3000 in the undercarriage. I'd g...

What do you mean by large and small housing? Different bell housing or different reverser housing. Didn't realize there were large and small.

Details on this would be great.

Is a 1010 track adjuster spring the same as a 440? I have a really nice set of 1010 front idlers , adjusters, tubes, and springs I'd rather use on the 440, then the half crappy 440 set that was on it. Just trying to make the best dozer out of all these parts I accumulated. I'm also thinking of putti...
