Re: Thread Search for price
I don't know about a price to repair a final drive, but the first place to start might be to do all the adjustments, and see if it fixes it. Lavoy, the person that runs this site, will give you an idea of what he sells these items for. As far as adjusting the track, I just went through that. The eas...

Re: 1010c lift cylinder leaking HELP
Hi, I looked up the specs for a 1010c, and the cylinders you have are probably aftermarket. It looks like the original cylinders for those dozers had a hose connection on each end. My 420 had aftermarket cylinders on it, and I found aftermarket replacement for a fair price, $87 each. They were 3 inc...

Re: 1958 John deere 420c track adjuster conversion possible?
I cut a socket and welded a section of pipe in the middle to create a deep socket to fit over the threaded end
of the long bolt. It was hard to get on the 1 1/2 nuts with the rock guards in the way. If you can get a wrench
on them, you can't turn much more than 1/8th of a turn.

Re: 1958 John deere 420c track adjuster conversion possible?
I know what your saying about the corroded adjustment nuts. I tried quite a few times over 6 months, and used all kinds of penetrant on the. I finally got them loose, but holding the adjustment nut with a pair of vise grips, and using an impact gun on the head of the bolt. I also made an 1 1/2 deep ...

Load needle packing.
I was wondering if anyone has replaced the packing around the adjustment screw on the load needle. This is for a Marvel Schebler TSX-641 carburetor 420 crawler. The needle is in good shape, no wear marks, it just weeps a little around the L shaped adjustment screw. I was thinking maybe a tiny o-ring...

Re: John Deere MC track bolts
I was able to tighten most of the loose shoes on my 420 by using a long breaker bar. Spray them first and let them soak. I purchased the ones I need to replace from Tractor Supply. Grade 5 bolts.

Re: Hydraulic Pressure
Thank you.
Do you think going from an 1.125" rods to a 1.25" rods on the 2 cylinders, will affect the lifting of the
dozer blade? Mine had two 3" cylinders. I thinks it a 62 blade.

Hydraulic Pressure
Does anyone know how much hydraulic pressure the 420c pump puts out? I'm trying to decide on rebuilding the hydraulic cylinders for the blade, or buying new ones. My cylinders are 3" bore by 8 inch stroke, with a 1 1/8 " rod. They are welded cylinders, so I don't think they are the original ones.(I ...

Re: John deere 420c 5 roller top idler
Once you get a low pressure grease gun, and a button head adapter, you can buy corn head grease from a JD ag dealer.
It's a semi solid grease that flows like an oil when it warms up from friction, and then thickens back up as it cools.

Re: 420C and what do I need?
The reverser get it's lubrication from the transmission.
I just purchased my 420C last fall, and the previous owner said not to use it, as it could cause problems.
You have to push in the clutch to use it, so you might as well shift into reverse.
