Wife's cars

Hi, Oh, yes. The wife's cars. We didn't meet until 1996, so there are a lot of cars I don't know about. here's the ones I do. 1980-something Chrysler mini-van. Ran great. never died. Although, I wished it would! It smoked a lot, yet never blew up, and also was both daughters first car. Not that they...

Hi, I have some others that didn't really fit into the other category. These are ones for special uses, or ones that I spent some time driving but didn't actually own. 1946 GMC Pickup. I learned to drive on this one. It was our Farm Truck growing up, so it had a six-mile range on the Farm tags. I co...

Hi, Wow. I'd have way too long a list, I think. I can't say that I've had that were truly junk, though. Some have their little issues, but none that come readily to mind that I wasn't able to work around. Here's a list, in order of my having them (dates in parens is when I got them). These are all c...

Hi, There's a soft iron plate associated with each field coil in the generator. That's what you're polarizing (magnetically) when you go thru the procedure. They're supposed to provided enough magnetic field to produce an output voltage from the generator. That, in turn, closes the cut-out relay in ...

Hi, I don't have a lot of issues, but then I'm using the old trick of having an *eight* volt battery on board during the winter. The extra 2v gives just enough to spin the engine a tad faster in the face of the thickened oil. You don't have to worry about the starter or generator with the extra two ...

Hi,

Yes, the only way to know is to pull the pump and the injectors and take them to a shop where they can test them. Then, you will know for sure.

Otherwise, it's a crap shoot at best.

Hi, A couple years ago, my lower radiator hose from 1958 popped. What cheap junk, eh? So, I put in a new radiator, new water pump, new belt and new upper hose while I was at it. It's a PIA to pull the grille guard to do any of that more than one time, see. Well, I forgot to get new rubber mounts for...

Hi, Hmmmm. Seems to me like an excellent subject to perform an exhaustive study of. This would mean going for one of those gummint grants we're always hearing about. Of course, this would mean buying and selling lots of old crawlers! later! Stan p.s. I think my 420c is worth at least $10k. It's trul...

Bluetooth links

Hi,

Keep in mind that Bluetooth has a data rate limited to 128 kbps. So, using that as a data link between the computer and even a 2G data phone would be a real bottleneck......

No DSL or cable here, either.

Hi, I had the same issue. There's no cable or DSL here on our farm There is a phone company microswitch two miles from the house that would give us plenty of DSL signal. Unfortunately, we're on the boundary line for area codes 919 and 910. Guess what? Yep. The close DSL feed is A/C 910 and we're fed...

Hi, I switched to AC's in all my 2-cyls long ago. The Champions would work OK for while, and then decide to misfire or worse, slow fire which leads to a loss of power without the obvious miss..... Yet, those pulled Champions would work fine in other-than-2 cyl-JD engines. I never did come up with a ...

Hi, That might be it! Yes, I can see it now: A TV weatherman and a store manager whispering in the back corner where the dairy case wall meets up with the back wall of the store! Maybe it started in the days when the milk came from a local dairy and the bread from a local bakery and all four were in...
