Re: 450C dozer track group
Hi Mimi, Worth a try and thank you. Actually got the unit started yesterday(been "in process" for 14 months) and found the water pump is leaking.Today is the day to get it moving and then do some cleaning on it before pulling water pump for re-build. Also need bracket and clamp for throttle push-pul...

450C dozer track group
I have been working on a 450C dozer I literally had to drag out of the woods in southern Louisiana and getting toward the end of repairs(way too many to list). On the track group: chains at +90% idlers same, rollers almost new, sprockets at +80%,bushings +90% with hardly any wear visible and not turne...

Wife kept asking why I (we) needed another dozer. D-6C haul fees getting crazy, just sold 350B (got $9900.00 for it from first man to call about it),350C with rake for raking and fence row work,450C (in process on functional rebuild) will be sold when done.Found the 450G with that ripper I wanted so ...

Raving for rippers
Just did another clearing job with my 450G and got to use my 3 shank ripper. If you have a chance to get one for your dozer I highly recommend doing so. Worked great on loosening small stumps and customer wanted a trash pit filled and pit was in an area of hard clay. Rip and push is sooooo much easi...

been working steady on the 450G: installed mechanical oil pressure gauge and have 55PSI cold and 45-48 when at operating temp. Installing new hour meter and when unit is running I do have 12.8 volts to new meter but it doesn't work? Thinking that wonderful made in China hour meter(from JD equipment ...

This is the time when "get a bigger hammer" applies. Position pin section at about 2 o clock on sprocket then using a 1" rod 24"+ long or so you whack the heck out of it. Takes more heat than you would think: I use an oxy/acetylene rig with a rose bud and heat to dull red. Easier if you have a helpe...

on my 450C the gear was bad and instead of tearing it down to replace the gear a simpler (cheaper) solution was to adjust throttle cable so that max throttle position is at 2000 rpm(or 1800 if you're more comfortable with that). You can rent a digital tack and using whiteout or chalk to make a refer...

1997 JD 450G opinions
I just bought a 1997 450G dozer. Hour meter (non-functioning) shows 4330 hours and looking at track group I'm thinking more around 7000+ hours. Been going through it and found a few little thing needing attention but nothing major(yet).Runs out strong through all gears with good hydraulics and no le...

good pic
Thank you for the picture:it helped. My "farmer fix" was to cross-connect the sumps and it seems to be working. I will pop the valve plate and check valve plate to tranny case o rings but changing those steel line o rings will have to wait till another day...

finally found a print. Valve body to transmission case the are 4 o rings for the oil passages. Then there are o rings on the steel lines going to the clutch quills: one up high and one down low near the quill(per line). Now assuming my leak is at the o rings on the upper area of the steel lines near...

350C reverser Farmer Fix part deux.....
many, many good responses to my first farmer fix post which redirected my trouble shooting so here's the update: Original problem was reverser oil transferring to transmission.Did find weep hole on rear of reverser case and it's dry so my reverser rear seal isn't the problem. Is is NOT the clutch sea...

I too like the cool but kinda locked into Texas because of my factory.100+ with humidity over 60% is what we have in August and it is deadly.Made it as far north as New York but never to Maine. I do hear it is nice there 3 seasons of the year. Wife and I went to Nebraska a couple of years ago in the...

@mini kahuna
I'm a firm believer in factory manuals and have some major $$$ invested in same for all of equipment I have and some I fixed and sold. But basic problem solving sure does come in handy too. This darling of a dozer had:blown hydraulic pump,6-way control valve plumbed wrong, leaking injectors, busted ex...

some GOOD news on a 450C
Few weeks back I bought a 1977ish 450C needing "a little work".Short version is she runs like a top. Bad news is she don't move too well. Found the obvious 22 of 24 passes plugged reverser strainer and she moved a little. No 1st gear though and Low on the HLR wasn't right. Dug a little deeper and so...
